The Cougas scored eleven runs and only got ten hits. The Southwest Michign Devil Rays really help big time, they would walk eight, with five of those scoring. The also threw three wild pitches with a runner on third base.
The game started out good for the Cougars, as Kevin Melillo led off the first with a walk. One ot later, Javier Herrera walked. An Oakland A's affiliate try a double steal?, well thats what the Cougars tried, Herrera would be out at second, with Melillo getting to third. A wild pitch would bring home Melillo. Tommy Everidge would then walk. Myron Leslie singled to left. Jose Pineda then struck out to end the inning.
In the third inning the Cougars would score four runs. With one out, Javer Herrera hit on down the left field line for a double. Everidge then grounded out to short to allow Herrera to move to third. Leslie walked, both runners would move along, with Herrera scoring on the wild pitch. Pineda then singled up the middle to score Leslie. Eddie Kim then hit a towering shot to right field, that might've brought rain. He hit it to right field for a two run bomb.
Everidge led off the fifth inning with a double to the centerfield wall. One out later, Pineda walked. Kim then doubled to right to score Everidge. Raul Padron grounded out to second, on the play Pineda would score. Nick Blasi would then reach on an infield single to second, on that play Kim scored.
Kane County would score their final three runs in the eighth inning. Padron single to leftcenter to lead things off. Blasi would walk. One out later, Cliff Pennington walked to load the bases. A wild pitch would move the runners along, with Padron scoring. Javier Herrera would be caught looking for the second out. Everidge singled to leftcenter to score both Blasi and Pennington.
The Devil Rays actually scored first in the game with a run in the first inning. Fernando Perez led off the game with a single to center, the stole second. Two outs later, Chris Nowak singled up the middle to score Perez. Nowak was than picked off of first to end the inning.
Another run for the Rays in the third inning. Patrick Breen led off with a double to rightcenter. Two outs later, josh Asanovich walked. Nowak then doubled to leftcenter to score Breen.
Travis Schilichting then singled up the middle to led off the sixth inning. Craig Markel followed with anotehr single up the middle. A ground out later, Patrick Cottrell walked. Breen then hit a sacrifice fly to allow Schilichting to score.
Michigan had chances to score in the second inning off of Cougar starter Ryan Ford. Schilchting led off the inning with a single up the middle. Ford then got Markel to ground into a double play. In the fifth inning they had another chance. Breen led off with a walk. Perez then tried to bunt for a hit, he would be out, but got the runner over to second. Reid Brignac then grounded out to second for the second out. Asanovich then walked. Ford would get Nowak to strike out to get out of the inning.
In the ninth the Cougars made things interesting. Robert Semerano came on and was in his second inning of relief. He would walk, Brignac and Asanovich to start things off. He threw eight straight balls. Nowak lined out to first. Schlitchting then singled down the right field line. Michigan gave the Cougars an out then. Two Rays were standing on second, after the single, as Schlichting had tried to get to second for the double and the baserunning mistake cost the Rays another out. Craig Markel then doubled to rightcenter to score to score boh Brignac and Asanovich. Semerano then got Francisco Leandro to pop up foul to Padron to end the game.
