The Cougars were road kill for the Devil Rays today, as they would lose 12-4. Two of those runs by the Rays were bases loaded walks in the last two innings. Michigan also had two, two run homers in the game. Of the seven walks that the Cougars issued, four of them would socre. Two in the fourth and two in the eighth.
The Rays would start the scoring off in the first with two runs. With one out, Reid Brignac singled to center. Chris Nowak then singled to right to get Brignac to third. A wild pitch would move the runners along, with Brignac scoring. One out later, Josh Asanovich doubled down the left field line to score Nowak. Cougar starter Michael Rogers then got Shaun Cumberland to line to right to end the inning.
Kane County actually came back and would tie the game in the second inning. The newest Cougar Roberto Arias started things off with a single up the middle. Two strikeouts later, Gregorio Petit would ground one to short. The shortstop tried to get Arias out at second, he would throw the ball into right fiel. Arias went to third and Petit hustled into second. Nick Blasi then drove a double into leftcenter to score both runners.
The wind blew out of the Cougars in the fourth when the Rays would score three runs. With one out, Patrick Cottrell walked. Patrick Breen then hit a two run liner onto the deck in right field. One out later, Brignac walked. Nowak then doubled off the top of the center field wall to score Brignac. Rogers got John Jaso to pop out to left to end the inning.
In the fifth the Rays tacked on another run. Asanovivh led off with a single to left, then went to second on a wild pitch. Two outs later, cottrell singled up the middle to score Asanovich. In the sixth inning Michigan scored twice more. With one out, Fernando Perez doubled to center. One out later, Nowak homered to left field.
The Cougars showed some life, somewhat in the seventh when they scored twice. Raul Padron led off with a single to right. One out later, Nick Blasi would be hit by a pitch. Ryan Ruiz then walked to load the bases. Javier Herrera then came up and hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Padron. Blasi tagged up and went to third. Tommy Everidge then singled to right to score Blasi. Jose Pineda would ground out to end the inning.
Things then got a little frustrating for Cougar fans. Jose Corchado came in for the eighth inning and couldnt find the plate. With one out, Brignac singled to right. One out later, Jaso and Asanovich walked which would load the bases. Cumberland then walked to forve in Brignac. Craig Markel singled to right to bring home Jaso. A wild pitch would allow Asanovich to score the third run of the inning. Cottrell finally grounded out to short to end the inning.
Unfortunatly things would only get worse to start off the ninth inning for the Cougars. Corchado led things off by hitting Breen with the first pitch of the inning, one pitch later a wild pitch would send Breen to second. Perez then walked. Corchado struck out Brignac for the first out. Nowak then would be hit by a pitch in the arm to load the bases. Heath Anderson came on to pitch hit for Jaso, he would walk to force in Breen. After that as the boos rained down on the Cougars, Cougar manager Dave Joppie brought out the hook and brought in Robert Semerano. Semerano got Asanovich and Cumberland out to get out of trouble.
The Devil Rays basically had a chance to score every inning in the game. In the second, a one out single would be erased by a double play ball. In the third Rogers escaped a bases loaded jam. With one out, Brignac singled to center, and would get to second on an error by Herrera. Nowak then walked, after hitting a long homer foul. Jaso walked to load the bases. After that Joppie came out to have a meeting with Rogers, but what he was really after was the plate ump because Rogers was being sqwuized. Rogers then got Asanovich to pop out to second. Cumberland would then strike out to strand the runners.
In the seventh inning, with one out, Markel doubled down the right field line. Cottrell then grounded out to short for the second out. Breen would strike out to end the inning.
The previous rant are not without saying the Cougars did have a few chances to score some runs and just couldnt get that one hit that they needed. In the first inning with one out, Ruiz walked. One out later, Everidge would single to leftcenter to put Ruiz on third. First and third two outs. Pineda grounds out to first to end the inning. In the fourth inning, Arias led off with a double to rightcenter. Kory Wayment then grounds out to short, Arias cant move up on the play. Padron would move the runner up with a groundout to first, but now there's two outs. Petit walked. Blasi would hit the first pitch he sees to right to end the inning.
In the eighth and the ninth the Cougars would get two out walks and both times they would be stranded at first after strikeout to end the inning. The Cougars stranded eight runners, four in scoring position. meanwhile the Cougars gave away four runs, two with the bases loaded walks and two with wild pitches.

Notes (Random Thoughts)-The Cougars were wearing their patriotic jerseys today....Today national antheim was nearly as good as yesterdays. Today we had some violenists, sorry but to me it sounded like scraping metal. Yesterdays was a guitarist who was pretty good, he only missed a few notes. It could be worse earlier this homestand we had someone sing and forget a couple of words then forget a whole verse of the song.....We had Birzerk here today, I know im being picky but would the dance with the ump thing be more believeable if the fake ump actually wore a Midwest League ump hat, instead of a International League ump hat.....Last one, Garvin Alston, our pitching coach, made some news today, He actually took off his sweater, and had a jersey on for the first time that Ive seen this year, who does he think he is another Eddie Williams.
