Kane County ended up getting the spilt of the season series against the Fort Wayne Wizards with a win tonight in Fort Wayne, 7-5.

The Cougars hit great with runners on and got six extra base hits. Justin Sellers, Anthony Recker, Chad Boyd, and Steve Kleen all had two hits. Raul Padron got three hits. The bullpen pitched very well, Joel Posey, Ben Jukich and Brad Kilby all pitched shutout ball.

Vince Mazzaro started for the Cougars and pitched five innings, and wasnt sharp. He gave up eight hits, one walk, one wild pitch and he balked once. In the first inning Diaz bunted one off of Mazzaro's glove, he jumped up and had it hit off of his glove. Diaz then stole second, and would get to third on a bad throw by catcher Anthony Recker. Mike Baxter then singled to right to score Diaz. A wild pitch would move Baxter to second. After that Mazzaro was able to get Will Venable and David Freese to strike out. Nick Hundley then grounded out to end the inning.

Three runs in the third inning for the Cougars. Todd Johnson led off with a double down the line to left. Justin Sellers then tripled to right to drive home Johnson. One out later, Sellers would score on a passed ball. Jeff Baisley then doubled off the left field wall. Anthony Recker singled to left center. Chad Boyd then reached on a fielder's choice. On the play Recker was out at second, and Baisley scored to put the Cougars up two.

Fort Wayne then scored two in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Diaz singled to right center, he would get to second on a balk and third on a wild pitch. Mike Baxter then walked. Will Venable singled to right to score Diaz. A passed ball by Recker allowed the runners to move up a base. Mazzaro was then able to get a ground out and a strike out to get out of trouble.

In the fourth inning Fort Wayne would score a run. Kyle Blanks hit a long bomb to left. With one out in the fifth inning the Wizards would score again. This time Baxter singled up the middle. Venable then singled to left, Baxter would make it to third. David Freese then singled to right to score Baxter. Thankfully hundley would line one to short, shortstop Sellers got the ball and stepped on second for a inning ending double play.

Chad Boyd led off the sixth with a single to left. Steve Kleen then singled to left center. Raul Padron singled to right to allow Boyd to score. Wes Long then grounded into a double play, on the play Padron was out at second, and Kleen would score. Two more runs for the Cougars in the seventh inning. Sellers led off with a bunt singlet o third. Isaac Omura then blooped one down the left field line for a double. Sellers went to third. Jeff Baisley would line one to left, Sellers tagged up and scored on the sacrifice fly. Recker doubled to right center to score Omura to put the Cougars up two runs. Boyd flew to center, for some reason Recker tried to tag up late and was out to end the inning at third.

The Cougars had one other chance to score some runs in the game. Padron led off the fourth with a doubled down the right field line that hit off the wall. Long then lined to center. Todd Johnson grounded out to the pitcher for the second out. Sellers would fly out to end the inning.

The Kane County bullpen was the diffrence in the game as the were fantastic. Joel Posey came in for the sixth inning. He gave up a single to Seth Johnston to led things off. Daryl Jones then singled to left. Posey then got Blanks to strike out. The Cougars then brought in Ben Jukich. He would get Rivera to ground into an inning ending double play. Jukich pitched two and two thirds innings of shutout ball, giving up a hit and a walk. He had to get out of some more trouble in the seventh inning. With one out, Baxter singled to second. Venable then walked. First and second with one out. Jukich struck out Freese. Hundley then ended the inning by hitting into a force play at second.

Fort Wayne's offense was going tonight, they had 11 hits. Mike Baxter had three hits and two runs. He scored twice, and walked once. Will Venable hat two hits. Diaz had a hit and two walks.
