July 11th, 2004
The Cougars offense came alive today as they scored seven runs, they had two three run innings that helped. Chris Dunwell pitched six innings and gave up three runs. The bullpen helped out with three shutout innings.
Dunwell pitched six innings, giving up six hits and three runs. All three of those runs were int he first three innings. Chris retired ten of the last thirteen hitters he faced.
Alex Garcia led off the game with a single to right. One out later Kyle Phillips hit a homer to right center. In the third inning with two outs Justin Arneson walked. Phillips then singled to right. Brock Peterson would follow with a single to left to score Arneson.
The bullpen did a nice job but they would get into trouble twice. In the seventh inning with Brigmer Leon pitching, Paul Rutgers led off with a double to center. A ground out by Omar Burgos would move Rutgers to third. Ryan Spataro walked to put runners on the corners with one out. Leon then got Garcia to fly out to right. Right fielder Chris Tritle made a great throw home to stop Rutgers from thinkin about scoring. Arneson then lined out to second. Luke Appert made a nice grab to end the threat.
In the ninth inning the Swing were down by four runs. Jose Corchado had just come on to pitch for the Cougars. With one out Scott Whitrock singled to left. Burgos walked. Both runners would move along a base on a wild pitch. Corchado then got Spataro to ground one back to him and they would be able to get the out at first. Burgos would then be caught off of second on the play and be tagged out to end the game.
The Cougars started their scoring in the second inning. Eddie Kim led off the inning with a homer down the left field line. Vasili Spanos walked. Two outs later, Kory Wayment would hit a homer over the left field deck to make it three to two. The other three run inning was in the fifth inning. Brian Ingram led off with a single to second. Luke Appert would then single to center. Brian Snyder followed with a homer to right.
Kane County also scored in the eighth inning. Appert led off with a double to center. One out later Kim was intentionally walked. Spanos then flew out to center, Appert would tag up and score.
