Did the Cougars think that they had a two day break for the Major League All Star Game? They got nine hits and scored three runs against Beloit. They also commited two errors and gave up eight runs and 13 hits in the loss.
This game was hard to sit throughthe pitching just wasnt that good, and the hitters just couldnt get any runners in on even get on base. From the fifth inning on we had five baserunners and non of them would get to third base.
Ryan Webb started for the Cougars and just didnt look all that comfortable on the mound or in his motion. Webb would get through six innings, but give up nine hits and six runs. He walked three and struck out one Snapper. Ryan also hit two batters and both scored.
Jay Rainville started for the Snappers and didnt pitch that badly. He went six innings, giving up six hits and three runs. Rainville wouldn't walk anyone and struck out six. After hitting the leadoff man in the fourth he retired the final nine he faced.
Cliff Pennington led off the scoring with a leadoff homer in the first down the right field line for his second pro homer. One out later, Javier Herrera singled to left, he then stole second. One out later, he would steal third. Myron Leslie then struck out to end the inning with Herrera stranded on third.
Beloit came back in the second to tie the score. David Winfree led off by getting in the way of a pitch. Jeremy Pickrel then singeld to right. Dwayne White then reached on a fielder's choice with Pickrel out at second. Trevor Plouffe would reach on a fielder's choice with White out at second and Winfree tying the game.
The Cougars would come back and score two more runs in the third inning. With one out, Herrera singled to left. A bad pick off throw by the catcher, Herrera went to third. One out later, Myron Leslie then hit a two run homer down the right field line.
Unfortunatly that would be the last highlight for the Cougars, the Snappers then scored seven runs. Pickrel led off the fourth inning with a triple to center. White then grounded out to short, on the play Pickrel scored. One out later, Johnny Woodard singled to short, Pennington made an outstanding play to just get to the ball up the middle and nearly threw Woodard out from the other side of second base. Javier Sanchez then was hit by a pitch. Landon Burt singled to center to score Woodard, Sanchez went to third and Burt went to second on the throw home. Luke Hughes followed with a single up the middle to score both Sanchez and Burt. Deacon Burns then popped out to short to thankfully end the inning with a score of 5-3.
Beloit wasnt done, in the sixth inning they scored another run. Trevor Plouffe led off with a single to left. One out later, Sanchez walked. As did Burt, which would mean the bases would be loaded with one out. Webb did a nice job to get Hughes to pop up foul to first for the second out. Burns then singled to right to score Plouffe. Bases still loaded Webb got David Winfree to stare at strike three to end the inning.
Two more runs for the Snappers in the seventh inning to finish off the scoring in the game. Pickrel led off with a single to short. White then singled to left. The newest Cougar Mike Mitchell had started the inning to make his Cougar debut. Plouffe then put down a sacrifice bunt. Only one problem Mitchell couldn't field the ball well, which loaded the bases with nobody out. Johnny Woodard then reached on a fielder's choice, where they hit the ball back to Mitchell who threw home to just get Pickrell out for the first out. The bases would reamin loaded. Sanchez then reached on another error by Mitchell this one where he couldnt pick up the ball. White would score and the mery-go-round continued. Burt would pop out to third for the second out. Mitchell would then walk Hughes with the bases loaded to force in Plouffe. Derek Tharpe then came on and even though he got the job done it wasnt pretty. He would get Burns to ground out to first to end the inning.
Tharpe's pitches were all over the place with a few going to the backstop and a few others going up an in. He would pitch two innings, only giving up one hit but it was a scary two innings.
The Snappers could've scored in the first inning, Burt led off the game with a walk, a fly out later, Webb got an inning ending double play. In the third inning with two out, Hughes singled to center. Burns then doubled to right. Second and thrid with two outs. Winfree then poped up to right to end the inning. In the ninth the Snappers had another chance. With one out, Woodard singled to short. Sanchez would then reach on a fielder's choice with Woodard out at second. Burt then singled to first, the ball went off of Everidge's glove. The Cougars then brought in J.R. Pickens who got Hughes to pop out to right to end the inning.
The Cougars didnt exactly roll over an play dead the whole game. With two outs in the second, Everidge singled to rightcenter. Gregorio Petit then singled to left. Pennington would pop out to right to end the inning. Nick Blasi led off the fourth by being hit by a pitch. He would remain at first three batters later. In the seventh inning, Everidge led off with a single to short, Petit then hit into a double play. In the eighth inning, Luis Perez singled to right to led things off. Again he would reamin at first three batters later. In the ninth the Cougars had their best chance. Raul Padron led off with a walk. Blasi then singled up the middle. Everidge would hit a foul ball near the line in right. The second baseman, first baseman and right fielder all got together and missed the ball by inches. Everidge would then fly out to left for the first inning. Petit then struck out. Pennington tried to go yeard with swingin at everything, and would eventually fly out to left to end the inning.
In two of Pennington's at bats he did a nice job of seeing a lot of pitches and fouling them off, he would see ten pitches in his first at bat and nine in his third at bat. In the other three though he saw a combined eleven pitches.

Random Notes-Well I dont know if Terry's train finally went off the tracks or if having players stay at your house could make you crazy, or what it was. But Kathy (behind the plate area) doing the chicken dance, what a scary sight.....The Cougars made a couple of moves today. Tomas Cabaniel went on the disabled list with right shoulder tendenitis.... Jose Corchado has been sent to Vancouver... The Cougars got back Joe Scott and got Mike Mitchell from Vancouver.....It was nice to see the Cougars represented in the all star game with four former Cougs there, Miguel Cabrera (01), Luis Castillo (96), Dontrelle Willis (02), Scott Podsednik (97)... Joe Borowski was signed by Tampa Bay....
