The Cougars squecked out a 1-0 win over the Lansing Lugnuts tonight to bring their recent win streak to six. It is the first time they have won that many since May when they won seven in a row.

Jared Lansford pitched well in getting out of some early trouble and giving the Cougars a chance to win the game. He got his ninth win of the year. He went six innings giving up four hits, while also walking three and striking out three. He threw 101 pitches. He pitched well to get out of a jam that he got himself into in the first inning. Jason Armstrong led off the game by being hit by a pitch. Anthony Hatch then walked. Brian Pettway popped out to short for the first out. Joey Metropoulos then struck out. David Hicks then walked to load the bases with two outs. Luke Hetherington popped out to first to end the inning.

Lansford also had to get out of trouble three more times in the game. In the third inning wiht one out, Hatch singled to right. One out later, Metropoulos walked. He would then be able to get Hicks to ground out to Steve Kleen at first to end the inning. Kleen made a nice job just to get in front of the ball. In the fourth inning, Hetherington led off with a bloop single to left. Josh Bell then lined one to third. Jeff Baisley made a great play to get the ball, just before it would've landed, and then throw back to firs for the double play. In the sixth inning, with one out, Metropoulos singled to center. Hicks then singled to left. Hetherington would then ground into an inning ending double play.

Offensivley the Cougars just kept coming, they had some great chances to break the game open but just couldn't get that one hit that they would need. The one run that did come across came in the second inning. Anthony Recker led off with a double down the left field line. Jose Pineda then dribbled one to short, that would allow Recker to get to third. Steve Kleen hit a grounded up the middle the short stop made a nice play to just get to the ball, and was wise not to try to throw back towards first. Recker scored on the play. Todd Johnson then reached on a fielder's choice, with Kleen being forced out at second for the second out. Wes Long would walk. Chad Boyd then ended the inning by hit into a force play at second.

A one out walk in the first to Justin Sellers would give the Cougars a chance. Isaac Omura then reached on a fielder's choice, with Sellers being out at second. Baisley would strike out. In the third inning, a one out walk to Omura would give the Cougars another chance. Baisley then hit into a double play to end the inning. In the fourth inning then Cougars really had a good chance to score. Recker led off with a walk. One out later, Steve Kleen grounded one to the short stop, the ball went under his glove for an error. Recker went to third on the error. First and third with one out, Johnson then grounded one to first, The Lugnuts would turn another inning ending double play.

More runner for the Cougars in the later innings, In the sixth inning, Omura led off with a single to right, then was balked over to second. Frank Martinez then reached on a fielder's choice, with Omura out at third. Martinez would then be thrown out trying to steal second. In the seventh inning a two out walk, would be cancelled after Todd Johnson was caught trying to steal second. In the eighth inning with one out, Boyd singled to right, then went to second on a wild pitch. Sellers would line to center. Omura flew to left to end the inning.

The Cougar bullpen did a nice job, the had to get out of a little trouble. Joe Newby came on to replace Lansford for the seventh inning. Josh Bell greated him with a single to left. Yuber Rodriguez would then reach on a fielder's choice with Bell being out at second. Newby would get Shoffit on strikes and Rodriguez caught stealing for an inning ending double play. In the eighth inning Newby was able to get around a one out single up the middle. Robert Semerano then came on and pitched a perfect ninth for the save.

Jared Lansford hasn't givin up a run in his last 16 innings. Going back to the third inning of his start in Fort Wayne. Isaac Omura extended his hitting streak to 16 games. Kleen has a 12 game streak going. Jeff Baisley's streak of reaching base in 30 straight home games is over though. Jared Lansford was named Midwest League pitcher of the week. it is his second time this year. Jeff Baisley has moved intot he top 10 in homers for Cougars with his 16th homer last night.

Jeff Baisley left the game after the fourth inning, he looked to have strained his right hamstring running on the double play to end the third inning. He went out and played in the field the next half inning then came out.

Thursday at South Bend 3:30
Joe Piekarz (4-3, 2.82)

I will be in South Bend this weekend for the Saturday and Sunday games, so I hope to see some more Cougar fans. If not then I guess well just have to be heard by our selves.

Alumni Notes-
Brad Knox was the Texas League pitcher of the week, as he won his last three starts.

Notes-Well I have to give Cougar reliever Brad Kilby an error, he was coaching first base and had a easy grounder hit him in the palm of his glove hand and it bounced away. No he didnt have a glove on and thankfully he only gets one error since he didnt reach for it with hit pitching hand. Also I want to know who gave Pam pitching lesson before she threw out the first pitch, two bounces Pam. Oh well it got there at least.
