Free base runners will almost always lead to a few too many runs for the opponents in a game. The Cougars gave up five free runners, two of them scored. Errors also hurt. The Cougars lost by two runs to Fort Wayne.

With one out in the second inning, Yefri Carvajal walked, followed by Andrew Parrino. Luis Martinez then hit a ball to the warning track in center. Centerfielder Todd Johnson had the ball go in and out of his glove. Carvajal scored. Parrino made third and Martinez pulled up at second. Cougar starter Lance Sewell then walked Brad Chalk to load the bases. Sewell was then able to get a line drive at shortstop Matt Ray, who was able to turn an inning ending double play. The damage was already done.

The other runs from the Wizards, one in the first and two in the fifth. The one in the first was a one out solo homer by Robert Perry. In the fifth, Sewell hit the lead off hitter Chalk. Cougar manager Aaron Nieckula then brought in Brent Lysander. Luis Durango would hit a grounder to first. First baseman Greg Dowling fielded the ball, and tried to throw back to the base to Lysander, and the ball went into the outfield. Chalk went to third and Durango made second. Perry then grounded out to short, Chalk would score on the play. Lance Zawadzki then singled to right to score Durango.

Lysander would also get into trouble in the seventh inning with two outs. Zawadzki singled to center. Justin Brown then singled to center. Felix Carrasco would walk to load the bases. Carvajal thanxfully popped one up foul to catcher Jake Smith to end the inning.

The Cougars did have some offense in the game. In the first inning with one out, Jemile Weeks singled to short. Todd Johnson then walked. Larry Cobb singled to right to score Webb. Cobb would be picked off of first. In the fourth inning Johnson led off with a walk, then stole second and went to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Larry Cobb then grounded out to second to allow Johnson to score.

The only other scoring opportunity for the Cougars came in the sixth inning. Weeks led off with a single to right, then stole second. Johnson grounded out to second, to get Weeks to third. Cobb popped out to the catcher. Smith then flew to right to end the inning.

The Wizards bullpen did a nice job in the game. Aaron Breit, Bryan Oland and Jackson Quezada combined for three perfect innings, with seven strikeouts. Oland struck out the side in the eighth. Add that to Matt Teague's pitching in the fifth and sixth, and the Cougars would get two hits over the last five innings, and strike out nine times.
