It didnt look good from the start, as the Rattlers would score twice in the first inning. The Cougars did tie it up in the fifth, then throw the ball and the game away in the seventh. They had their chances and it really just never clicked for them.
Brent Johnson led off the first with a single off of third baseman Myron Leslie's glove. Jack Arroyo then put down a sacrifice bunt. Pitcher Trent Peterson would make a low throw to first, and the ball got away. The put runners on second and third with nobody out. Chris Colton grounded out to short for the first out, Johnson would score. Mike Wilson then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Arroyo.
Kane County cut the lead in half in the second. With one out, Raul Padron blooped one to center. Jose Pineda then singled up the middle. One out later, Ryan Ruiz singled to center to score Padron. On the play Pineda would be caught at second, rounding the base to far to end the inning.
Matt Tuiasasosopo led off the fourth with a double to right. Yung Chi Chen then singled to center to score Matt T. Peterson would then get a double play to erase Chen. The Cougars tied the game in the fifth with three runs. Pineda led off the inning with a single to left. Nick Blasi would then single to center. Ruiz put down a bunt to move the runners along. Gregorio Petit doubled down the left field line to score both runners. Petit would get to third on a balk. Cliff Pennington then would reach on a droped third strike. Luis Perez hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Petit. Leslie would ground out to end the inning.
After that nothing went the Cougars way. In the sixth inning, Marshall Hubbard led off by being hit by a pitch. Omar Falcon then bunted him to second. The Rattlers brought in Josh Womack to run for Hubbard. One out later, Chen singled to center to bring home Womack.
The final score dosent mean the Cougars didnt have a few chances. In the third inning, Pennington got a one out walk. Perez then hit into an inning ending double play. In the sixth inning with one out, Padron walked. Pineda then singled to left. Blasi would then pop up foul to first. With first and second and two outs, Ruiz hit into a force play to end the inning.
Then there was the seventh inning. With one out, Pennington doubled down the right field line. Luis Perez then moved him to third with a ground out. The Rattlers then brought in Eric O'Flaherty. Leslie would then hit the second pitch foul to third to end the game. Leslie then slamed the bat into the ground, where it was sticking out handle to the sky.
Dont worry it got worse. In the bottom of the seventh with the score still tied at four. Brent Johnson led off with a double down the right field line off of new Cougar reliever Tomas Cabaniel. Jack Arroyo then tried to bunt him over, Cabaniel got the ball and got Johnson out on the force at third. One out, man on first. Arroyo would then steal second and third on consecitve pitches. On the steal of third the ball went into left field, and Arroyo came trotting home to win the game.
