The Cougars win the game in the eighth inning with the help of some
bad fielding on the half of the Bandits.
To be honest neither team put on a deffensive clinic out there today
their were a combined four errors for the second day in a row, adn this
time not all of them were by Cougars players. Only half of them.
In front of the second largest crowd of the season the Cougars bats
came alive for one inning, for just enough offense to pull out the
victory.
Josh Beckett pitched six innings with not much help from the deffense
at times. Both of the runs that he gave up were unearned. The great
part is that he did not walk anybody and he also struck out eight Bandits.
Josh struck out five of the first six hitters of the game before Craig
Selander lead off the third with a sinlge to center.
The bullpen did a good job of holding Quad City at just two runs.
Even though at times we were on pins and needles with one certain
pitcher. Brandon Bowe, Hector Henriquez, and Bryan Moore went a combined
three innings of one hit ball.
Offensivly Kevin Hooper had two hits. One good thing though is that
everyone in the order got on base during the game, one way or another.
For the Bandits Henry Bonilla started and went six innings giving up
four hits, one run, and struck out six. Brian Wolfe, Tony Cento, and Ronnie
Corona all went two third of an inning each with mixed results. Wolfe and Corona went
unscored upon. Cento would give up the runs in the eighth to give the
Cougars the victory.
The scoring started in the bottom of the first when Chip Ambres singled
to center. Kevin Hooper then singled to left. Scott Goodman would ground
out to second with Ambres scoring.
Quad City would get their two runs in the fourth when Kelly Guiledge
lead off the inning with a double to left. Matt Scanlan then would reach
on a ball that short stop Luis Ugueto should have just stuck it in his pocket
and said ok you got an infield single, but that what the minors are for, learning.
He threw the ball after going behind second base, which was a good play
just to keep the ball in the infield. Then he threw the ball into about
the middle part of the dugout, halfway between home plate and first base.
Guiledge would score on the play. Eric Sandberg then singled to center
to score Scanlan.
The Cougars would score the final two runs of the game in the eighth
when with one out Kevin Hooper doubled to cneter. Scott Goodman would
reach on an error by third baseman Matt Scanlan. Matt Padgett would be
intentionally walked. After a pitching change Matt Frick would walk to
bring in Hooper to tie the game. Dave Callahan then grounded out to
short, and the short stop Tony Stevens had no other play but to get
Callahan out at first which ment that Goodman could score the winning
run.

Notes-If I forgot to mention it yesterday Jorge Cordova was traded
to the Cincinnati Reds for reliever Manny Aybar, Jorge was assigned
to Clinton of the Midwest League who the Cougars just so happen to play
in two weeks.
