One very bad inning, and that does away what it took eight other innings to put together. The Cougars gave up seven runs in the eighth inning, and would lose to the Swing of the Quad Cities 9-6.
That one inning, was just horrible to sit through. Matt Lemancyzk started it off with a walk, then stole second. Matt Shepherd singled to right to get Lemancyzk to third. Chris Patrick then hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Lemancyzk. Nick Stavinoha then singled to right. J.R Pickens then came in for Trent Peterson. Pickens got Eric Verbryke to line to short for the second out of the inning. Things then just imploded on the Cougars. Juan Lucena singled to left to load the bases. Rick Ankiel then pitch hit for Wes Swackhammer and drew a walk to force in Shepherd. Calvin Hayes pitch ran for Ankiel. Mike Ferris singled to right to score both Stavinoha and Lucena. A wild pitch would send Ferris to second. Cody Palmer hit a two run homer to left. At that point there went the second clipboard of the season, and the second of the month. Lemancyzk singled to third, then stole second. Shepherd would walk. Pickens then was somehow able to get Patrick to strike out, to mercifully end the inning.
Believe it or not the Cougars had a 6-1 lead coming into the inning. Javier Herrera hit a solo homer in the first to center. In the fifth, with one out, Ryan Ruiz walked. Gregorio Petit then singled to center. Cliff Pennington would hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Ruiz, and let Petit tag up and get to second. Luis Perez then grounded to third to end the inning.
Another run for the Cougars in the sixth inning. Herrera led it off with a single to left. One out later, Raul Padron singled up the middle. A wild pitch would move both runners up a base. Jose Pineda walked to load the bases. Nick Blasi hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Padron. Ruiz popped up to short to end the inning.
Three runs for the Cougars in the seventh. Petit led it off with a single to center, then stole second. Pennington doubled down the right field line to score Petit. Luis Perez then doubled off the center field wall, Pennington would get to third, as he wasnt sure if the centerfielder could get to it. Herrera was intentionally walked. The Swing made a pitching change, and Tommy Everidge would walk to load the bases. With the bases loaded Padron struck out. Pineda was able to single to right to score Pennington. Herrera would be out on a play at the plate, and a nice job by the catcher to block the plate. Pineda moved to second on the throw to the plate. Blasi flew out to left to end the inning.
Things could've been diffrent on the scoreboard. In the second inning, with one out, Pineda doubled down the left field line. Blasi would reach on a fielder's choice, with Pineda being out at third. Ruiz struck out to end the inning. In the eighth inning, Ruiz led off with a single to left. One out later, Pennington singled up the middle. The Swing then made a pitching change. Perez would then hit into an inning ending double play. In the ninth, Herrera led off by being hit by a pitch. A fielder's choice, a pop up and a line out and the game was over.
All of this scoring and the best performance of the night was Tony Evans who pitched very well. He went six inning, giving up two hits and two walks. Evans struck out six. In the first inning he gave up a one out double to Shepherd. He would then get two fly outs to end the inning. In the second a leadoff walk, and the runner would stay on first.
The third inning saw, Evans give up a two out walk that would go nowhere. After Evans came out things started to fall apart. In the seventh inning, Eric Verbryke led off with a single to center off Trent Peterson. A wild pitch moved him to second. One out later, Swackhammer doubled to rightcenter to score Verbryke. Lucena tried for a triple but would be cut down for the second out. In the ninth inning the Swing added an insurance run. Stavinoha led off with a single to leftcenter. Verbyrke then singled to left. Lucena flew out to right, Stavinoha tagged up and went to third. Hayes then put down the sweeze bunt to score Stavinoha, and mover Verbyrke to second. Ferris was intentionally walked. A wild pitch moved both runners up a base. Cody Palmer struck out looking to end the inning.

Random Notes-You know it would kind of be nice if the scoreboard out in leftcenter actually, you know, kinda worked for once. It hasnt worked this homestand....Alan Malamut is leading in the Cougar Fantasy game with 18 points...
