Wackiness Prevails At Elfstrom

This game was not for the weak at heart, with four errors combining with plenty of mistakes to make this an interesting game. The Cougars scored all seven of their runs in the seventh inning to win the game.

In the first four innings the game felt like it was going to be a good pitching game, but that soon ended, with the Kernels putting a four spot on the board in the sixth.

Josh Beckett pitched a good game in the first few innings actually retiring the first ten he faced untill he walked one and then the next hitter would sinlge to left. Beckett was fine untill the sixth inning when things just unraveled for him and the Cougars as a leadoff triple would set the tone for the inning. Josh would not make it through the inning.

Dusty Bergman who coming into the game was three and eleven on the season with a high earned run average started and kind of looked good in the first few innings, but then the wheel fell off of the wagon and in the seventh he imploded.

Five diffrent Cougars had one hit in the game, but the walks is what killed the Kernels, Bergman gave up seven of them in just over six innings. The errors also did not help them much either.

The bullpen help out for the Cougars as Bryan Morse got the first call and went in and pitched one and one thirds inning and gave up nothing. Hector Henriquez came in after him and again it seemed he kind of struggled. Hector pitched one inning and gave up one hit and one run. Brandon Bowe was the last pitcher and he would get the save pitching a scorless ninth.

For the Kernels Julian Harris relieved Bergman first and he could not get an out, giving up one hit and two runs. Palmer Eubanks then pitched one and one thirds innings, giving up only one hit, while striking out two.

The scoring started in the sixth for the Kernels when Scott Bikowski lead it off with a triple to right. Miguel Ortiz then singled to right to score Bikowski. Tom Gregorio singled to left. Chris Barski then struck out. Cordell Lindsey doubled to right to score both Ortiz and Gregorio. One out later Francisco Duran singled to center to score Lindsey.

The Cougars came back with seven in the seventh when Kelley Washington beat out a bad throw by the second baseman. Luis Ugueto then poped out to second. Chip Ambres would walk. Kevin Hooper then hit into a fielder's choice with Ambres being out. Kevin Perkins doubled to left to score Washington. Matt Frick then walked to load the bases. Dominick Woody also walked to drive home Hooper. After a pitching change which saw reliever Julian Harris come in Matt Padgett singled to left to score both Perkins and Frick. Now comes the fun. Dave Callahn would doubled to left to bring home both Woody and Padgett. On the play the cut off guy, the short stop over threw second base trying to get Callahan at second and he threw the ball over everyone and into the corner in right field. Callahan would waddle home with the seventh run.

The Kernels would score one more run, this time off of Hector Henriquez when Chris Barski singled to left. Then Cordell Lindsey was hit questionably by a pitch. After one out Francisco Duran reached on a Kelley Washington error that would score Barski.

The Cougars had so many chances to score in this game but at times it was good deffense in the early part of the game, and other times it was themselves that made it so that they did not score in the inning.
