Homers by Javier Herrera and David Castillo helped propell the Cougars towards another win in Peoria. Ryan Webb, Trent Peterson and Dan Fyvie also helped a lot.
The Chiefs scored three runs off of Webb in his six innings of work. He only go into trouble twice. In the first inning, Sam Fuld led off with a double off the wall to left. Eric Patterson then walked. Ryan Harvey struck out for the second out. Jesse Schmidt flew to center for the second out. Bo Flowers hit a grounder to Eddie Kim over at first, the ball went through his legs for an error. Fuld would score, Patterson went to third and Flowers made it to second. Webb then got Joe Simokiatis to ground out to end the threat.
In the third inning, Eric Patterson hit a one out solo shot to left center. Patterson led off the sixth with a walk. He would then steal second and move to third on a wild pitch on strike three to Harvey. Schmidt then hit a sacrifice fly to center to allow Patterson to score.
Kane County would score two runs in the fourth inning. Myron Leslie led off with a single to left. Castillo then crushed a two run homer down the left field line. In the sixth inning, Herrera hit a leadoff homer to left to give the Cougars the lead.
The Chiefs tied the game in the sixth inning. In the seventh the Cougars would score the game winning run. Castillo led off with a single to left, then move to second on a wild pitc. One out later, Cliff Pennington singled up the middle, Castillo went to third. One out later, Herrera would reach on an error by Simokiatis. Castillo would score and Pennington would be toast at the plate to end the inning.
Trent Peterson came on in relief of Webb in the seventh, and pitched two perfect innings. he struck out three. Dan Fyvie would pitch the ninth for the save. He gave up a liner up the middle to lead things off by Harvey. Schmidt then bunted him to second. Fyvie was then was able get Flowers out on strikes. Simokiatis then lined out to center to end the game.
The Cougars could've added another run in the ninth inning. Castillo led off with a walk. Gregorio Petit bunted him over to second. Ryan Ruiz pitch ran for Castillo. Runner on second with one out. Pennington popped up foul to third. Luis Perez then lined out to left to end the inning.
