It took 12 innings, and over four hours, but the Cougars earned a split in the series with Cedar Rapids. More importanlty they are still tied with Burlington for the wild card spot. Only problem is that Burlington wins the tie breaker since they beat us head to head this year.

The offense started in spurts, as the first couple of innings they scored a couple of runs. In the last two innings they scored a couple of more runs. Then in the 12th the game winning run. Along the way they would have some runners on but just couldnt get the runners over and in.

Tommy Everidge led off the 12th with a walk. Gregorio Petit was the hit by a pitch. Cliff Pennington doubled down the left field line to drive home Everidge. One out later, Javier Herrera was hit by a pitch. Herrera took exception to being hit and let Kernel pitcher Francis Abreu know it, by yelling and pointing his bat at him. Both benches cleared but nothing thankfully happend. The Kernels then made a pitching change to bring in T.J. Stanton. Eddie Kim then lined one to second. The second baseman, Nate Sutton threw to short to try to get Pennington out at second. The throw got away from the short stop for an error to allow Petit to score.

Ryan Webb started for the Cougars and didnt have his best stuff, plus he seemed to be dealing with that blister problem again. He would keep the Cougars close and in the game. Webb gave up four runs, but his four walk is what hurt the most as the Kernels love to run. The Kernels had six stolen bases, were caught four times and picked off once.

Cliff Pennington led off the game with a walk, he then stole both second and third. Ryan Ruiz then lined a double down the left field line to score Pennington. One out later, Kim flew out to left, Ruiz was caught off of second, as the left fielder went a long way to catch the ball in the alley. That would be a double play and end the inning.

THe Cougars gave the Kernels two runs in the bottom of the inning. Alex casilla led off with a walk, then stole second. Sean Rodriguez bunted him over to third. Freddy Sandoval grounded out to first, Casilla would score on the play to tie the game. Michael Collins walked, then stole second. Josh LeBlanc singled up the middle to score Collins. Webb then was able to get Richard Giannoti on strikes to get out of the inning.

Travis Buck led off the second inning with a single up the middle. Two outs later, David Castillo singled down the right field line to get Buck to third. Gregorio Petit then singled to center to score Buck. Cliff Pennington would walk, to make it base loaded and two outs. Ruiz grounded out to second to strand the runners.

The game would stay that way till the fourth when the Kernels scored another run. LeBlanc led off with a single to left, then stole second. Giannoti bunted him over to third. Drew Toussiant then walked. Jordan Renz grounded out to second, on the play LeBlanc scored.

Cedar Rapids scored another run in the sxith inning. Michael Collins led off by reaching on an errant throw by second baseman Ruiz.. Collins was then picked off of first by Webb. The throw from Kim to Pennington, was on target. Pennington according to the umps either missed the tag or the tag was late as Collins was called safe. One out later, Giannoti singled to right to score Collins.

Nate Sutton led off the bottom of the 12th with a walk. Alexi Casilla then reached on a fielder's choice, with Sutton being out at second. One out later, Sandoval singled down the left field line to score Casilla to bring the Kernels within one run. Collins then struck out to end the game.

Both teams had a lot of chances to get runs. Jose Pineda led off the fourth with a single to left. Raul Padron then singled to first. On the play the liner hit Pineda in the foot and he was out. Castillo then grounded into the inning ending double play. In the fifth inning, Ruiz was hit by a pitch with two outs. Herrera then flew out to center. In the sixth inning, Buck had a one out single to short, then stole second. Pineda hit one to the wall in right for the second out. Padron would pop out to third to end the inning.

for Cedar Rapids, In the third inning, Chris Walston led off with a single back up the middle. He was then caught trying to steal second. One out later, Rodriguez walked and stole second. Sandoval flew out to right and Collins struck out.

J.R. Pickens did a nice job of getting out of his own mess with out any damage. In the tenth inning, Walston singled up the middle with one out. Sutton pitch ran for him. Casilla then reached on a fielder's choice with Sutton being out at second. Casilla then stole second. Rodriguez would then get called out on strikes to end the inning. In the eleventh it took some work but the Kernels would be kept off the scoreboard by Pickens. With one out, Collins doubled to center. LeBlanc was then intentionally walked. Giannoti then walked to load the bases with only one out. Pickens was then able to get Toussiant to hit one to Pennington who came home with it and got Collins for the second out. Pickens then got Renz on strikes to end the inning.
