Did Cougars bus driver, Richard, pick up the wrong team from South Bend and bring them home. I think he did - maybe he brought back the Notre Dame Powder Puff Softball Team, - anyway the Cougars lost 14-0 to the Lansing Lugnuts. .

The Cougars were able to manage all of three hits in the game. They had two chances to get anything on the board. In the second inning. Vasili Spanos reached on an error. Dan Putnam then doubled to left. One out later Eddie Kim walked, which loaded the bases. David harriman would strike out. Chris Tritle poped out to short to end the inning. In the ninth inning Nick Rogers led off with a walk. Brian Ingram then singled to center. David Castillo would strike out. Spanos walked, which again loaded the bases. Putnam would hit into a game ending double play.

Brad Knox started and just had nothing, he got hammerd. In the first inning Brian Dopirak hit his league leading 39th homer of the season with two outs. Kevin Collins then singled to right. Jake Fox would single to center. Knox did get Alan Rick to strike out to end the inning.

The next inning was hard to watch. Alberto Garcia led off with a single to right. Carlos Rojas then reached on a fielder's choice, with Garcia out at second. Anthony Granato singled to left. Chris Walker struck out for the second out. Tony McQuade walked, which loaded the bases. Dopirak hit a ground rule double to center to score both Rojas and Granato. Collins followed with a single to left to score both McQuad and Dopirak. Rick grounded out to second to end the inning.

In the third it just got worse. Garcia led off with a double to left. One out later Grantao singled to center, to score Garcia. Granato went to second on a wild pitch. Knox then struck out Walker. McQuade would hit the knock out blow, a two run homer to the right field deck. Knox woul be knocked out of the game. Dan Fyvie came on a struck out Dopirak to thankfully end the torture.

The fourth and fifth were for the most part quiet. In the fourth, Collins led off with a walk. Jake Fox then grounded into a double play. In the fifth, Garcia led off with a single to center. he then stole second and went to third on a throwing error by catcher David Castillo. Fyvie then settled down, and struck out Rojas. Granato grounded out to short. Walker poped out to left to wiggle out of the jam.

In the sixth inning Fyvie would get the first two outs, then be taken out of the game., why? Justin Crowder came on and walked Collins. Fox doubled to left. A wild pitch would bring Collins in and move Fox to third. Rick walked. Garcia then singled to left to score Fox. Rojas would strike out to end the inning.

The Lugnuts played tag with the baseball in the seventh. With two outs, McQuade doubled to left. The Cougars then brought in J.R. Pickens. Thankfully Dopirak was lifted for Drew Larsen. Larsen then singeld to third, McQuade scored. Collins was lifted for Ryan Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald then tripled to center to score Larsen. Fox would single to right to score Fitzgerald. Rick then singled to second. A wild pitch would let Fox score and move Rick to second. Another wild pitch moved Rick to third. Garcia poped out to cetner to mercifully end the inning.
