Clinton Lumberkings at Kane County Cougars
April 6th, 2003
Game 2
The Cougars finally lost a game, the only problem is the game should've been closer than it was. The COugars made three errors, two of them by John McCurdy.
Bill Murphy got his first start for the Cougars and lasted four innings. Manuel Rodgriguez and Jared Burton then combined for the final three innings. Murphy gave up four hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out five. Rodriguez gave up three unearned runs. Burton gave up only one hit.
The Cougars got ont he board in the first inning. Kory Wayment walked. John McCurdy then lined out to center. Brant Colamarino lined out to center for the second out.Wayment stole second base. John Baker singled to left to bring home Wayment. Kirk Nordness then reache don a fielder's choice, with Baker being out at second to end the inning.
After the Cougars offense gave Murphy the lead he shut the Kings down for the next two innings. In the fourth inning though was a diffrent story. Juan Senreiso singled to center, then stole second base. Nate Gold singled to right ot bring home Senreiso to tie the game. Onthe play rightfielder Nick Rogers tried to grip the ball and throw it to second to try to keep Gold at first. Only one problem he couldnt grip the ball and it flew out of his hand and the ball went about 15 yards away from him. On the play Gold would get to third. Kevin Richardson singled to center to bring home Gold. Richardson would get to second on a wild pitch. Manny Santana then put down a sacrifice bunt to move Richardson to third with only one out. Hugo Agustin then struck out looking. Orlando Cruz walked. Gabriel Delgado then grounded out to short to finally end the inning.
In the bottom of the inning the Cougars had a good chance to put up some runs. Nordness lined out to center on the first pitch he saw. John Suomi then doubled to left. Nelson Cruz lined out to short. Nick Rogers walked. Francis Gomez grounded into a fielders choice with Cruz being out at second.
The Lumberkings started Dustin Scheffell, he lasted four innings, and gave up three hits. He allowed just the one runs. Scheffell walked two and struck out three.
The Kings scored again in the sixth, Kevin Richardson reached on a fielding error by shortstop John McCurdy. Manny Santana then put down a sacrifice bunt to get Richardson to second. Hugo Agustin singled to left to get Richardson to third. Orlando Cruz was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Gabriel Delgado then reached on a fielder's choice with Richardson being out at home. The bases remain loaded. Cameron Coughlan then tripled to right to bring home all three runners. Craig Ringe grounded out to third to end the inning.
