Dayton Dragons starter Brad Salmon pitched eight innings of two hit shutout baseball, hoisting the Dragons to a 6-0 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts in front of 1,956 at Oldsmobile Park Thursday.
Dragons catcher Bryan Prince went 1 for 4 and had a two run double that was part of a six run fourth inning that proved to be the difference as Dayton improved to 2-6 and Lansing falls to 5-3.
Salmon and Lansing starter Sergio Mitre matches goose eggs for the first three innings, but the wheels fell of for the Lugnuts righty in the fourth. The first three Dragons reached and Omar Hurtado's RBI fielder's choice made it 1-0. Justin Davis followed with a single that made it 2-0 and Prince followed withh the first of three straight doubles that completed the nightmare inning and made it 6-0. Noochie Varner, Jesse Gutierrez, Hurtado, Davis, Prince and Gary Patchett all scored in the inning that saw Dayton collect seven of their eleven hits.
Salmon (1-1) did the rest as he struck out five in his eight innings. He faced a total of 26 batters and only one Lugnuts went further than second base.

The Lansing Lugnuts had their crack at avenging last year's season ending playoff sweep against a struggling Dayton team on Thursday night.
But Lansing played it's worst game of the young season and suffered it's first shutout with a 6-0 loss to the Dragons.
The Lugnuts (5-3) produced just two hits in 27 at bats and gave up six runs in the fourth inning.
"It was one of those days where nothing went right for us." Lansing manager Julio Garcia said, "It's just one of those things that happen. Out guys were hustling and trying to make the plays, it just didn't go our way. Hopefully we'll come out and put on a better show tomorrow."
The six run inning by the Dragons (2-6) was the most they had scored in any game this season.
The only offensive highlight of the night came in the second inning on a two out triple off the right field wall by Mike Mallory. The three base hit was his second of the season.
Buck Coats failed to bring Mallory home after grounding out to second base. "The guygs hit the ball hard tonight, we jus thit it right at them," Mallory said.
Rightfielder J.J. Johnson registered the other Lugnuts hit with a single in the seventh inning.
Lansing starter Sergio Mitre (1-1) pitched three strong innings, but took the loss after a shaky fourth.
The first three Dayton batters reached base in the inning before scoring on a fielder's choice and RBI single. The Dragons then rattled off three consecutive doubles, scoring four and sending Mitre back to the dugout.
Lansing's defense struggled as well, committing three errors for the second consecutive game.
B.J. Benik, Yorkin Ferreras and Steve Ellis closed out the game on the mound. They combined for six strikeouts with just three hits and no runs.
Dayton pitcher Brad Salmon got his first win of the year, pitching eight inning and striking out five.
The game was the first in a four game home series with Dayton. They will play game two tonight at 6:05. Lefthander Felix Sanchez is expected to get the start for Lansing.
