The South Bend SilverHawks used some late inning heroics to come out on top Saturday afternoon.
Scott Hairston delievered the tying run with an RBI single in the eighth inning, while Richie Barrett and Rick Haydel came up with ninth inning run scoring hits to help South Bend rally for a 4-2 victory over West Michigan in Midwest League action.
Dustin Vugteveen paced an 11 hit attack for the Hawks with two singles and a double as South Bend bounced back from Friday's heartbreaking 2-1 loss in 16 innings.
Right hander Brian Bruney evened his record a 1-1 by fanning four batters in 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief.
Trailing 2-1 in the eighth inning Hairston came through with a one out poke into left field against reliever Jerrod Fuell, while Barrett and Haydel did their damage off right hander Landon Stockman (0-1).
Lino Garcia, Barrett and Hairston had two hits apiece to pace South Bend.
