Luis Torres allowed one run over six innings as Clinton edged Cedar Rapids, 2-1 in Midwest League action Monday night at Alliant Field.
The Lumberkings (6-3) scored single runs in the first and fifth innings. Dominick Ambrosini had two hits and drove in a run for Clinton, which got just six hits off Kernel pitching.
The lone Cedar Rapids run came in the third when Justin Turner cracked a home run off Torres. Kernels starter Mike Nickoli (0-1) gave up four hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Clinton's bullpen was nearly perfect, allowing just one hit in three innings. Chris Schroder pitched a perfect ninth for his third save.
