One day after losing 2-1 to the Wizards in Fort Wayne, the Lansing Lugnuts returned to Oldsmobile Park on Saturday and earned a 2-1 win of their own.
"Runs have been hard to come by," Lansing manager Julio Garcia said, "It keeps the guys into it, it's nice to see one run games, they're more exciting for me."
Carmen Pignatiello pitched six solid innings and Hector Miliano tripled with one out in the ninth as the Lugnuts won their eigth game of the season.
Miliano, who was 3 for 4 for the game, scored the game winning run on a grounder by Josh Arteaga.
Miliano said his focus was trying to geton base in the ninth.
"I knew I needed to get on" Miliano said. "I got a good pitch to hit and drove it. I wanted the game to end in nine."
"I like Miliano's ability" Garcia said, "He's been swinging the bat well. He runs the bases well and has good speed, a good combination."
Pignatiello allowed two hits, no runs and struck out eight before giving way to reliever Eric Brown in the seventh.
J.J. Johnson's RBI single in the third inning got the Lugnuts (8-8) on the scoreboard first as Ryan Theriot scored. Theriot walked with one out and stole second base.
"I had been late on a couple of fastballs," Johnson said, "We needed a run. I was happy to get the ball through the infield."
Johnson is third in the Midwest League with 14 RBI. "I was put in the three hole for a purpose," Johnson said, "I just try to do the job. See the ball, hit the ball. I'm trying to drive in runs like I'm supposed to."
Brown pitched two innings, giving up one hit and one run. Steve Ellis (1-0) relieved and struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth to notch the win.
Brad Bouras went 2 for 4 for Lansing with a double. Bouras is tied for the Midwest League with eight doubles and 10 extra base hits.
"I've just been trying to stay on the ball at all times," Bouras said, "This is my first full season so my goals aren't outrageous."
Wizards starter Cory Stewart allowed the Lugnuts' run in the seventh and worked only 2 2/3 inings. Dan Gooris went 1 2/3 innings and took the loss (2-2)
Lansing is 2-3 through five games of a seven game stretch against the Wizard.
"It seems like it's still spring training," Garcia said, "We're playing the same team over and over again."

Close Calls
All five games in the Lugnuts seven game stretch with Fort Wayne have been decided by one run. The Lugnuts were victorious in one of the four games on the road and the first game of the home stand Saturday.
Lansing is 3-5 this season in games decided by one run.
Injury Update
Lugnuts pitcher Mark Carter was placed on the 15 day disabled list after suffering an ankle injury. Right hander Jeff Carlsen was recalled from the Mesa Cubs of the Arizona rookie league to fill the gap in the bullpen. Carlsen's retrun was tainted by two home runs in his first game of relief.
Lansing catcher Warren Hanna was also placed on the disabled list on Saturday because of an injury to his right knee. Carlos Marmol was promoted from the extended spring training team and will join the Lugnut roster today.
"I saw him a little bit in spring training. He's a young kid with a good arm and swings the bat well." Lansing manager Julio Garcia said.
