I think we may have finally found some offense, but let's just hope they
did not use up their aloutment of runs for the series, in one game. The Cougars
put up 13 hits, and 10 runs. Kane County had one realy big inning, then they
just added some more in another couple of innings.
The Cougars manager Steve Phillips, played with the lineup today.
Charles Frazier lead the game off for the first time this year. Anthony Brewer batted second.
I realy like what I saw from that combo. They combined to get on base six times. They walked twice,
and got three hits. The first two hitters also scored four times. Frazier, had two hits and one walk. Brewer
tripled in the ninth, had two walks and scored two runs.
Scott Hicks and Jason Stokes did not have bad games either. They combined to go 6 for 8, driving home three.
They scored four runs, and Stokes hit a homer. Hicks had three straight hits to lead off the game for himself.
He got doubles in the first and the third. Scott singled in the fifth. He reached on an error in the sixth. Hicks
then hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Stokes had three hits, he had singles in the first and third. He also hit
a homer in the ninth.
Hunter Wyant contributed to the offense with three hits. He also drove home two runs. Winton Zapey put down a
great sacrifice bunt in the sixth.
Anthony Brewer, Michael Tucker and Rex Rundgren all drew two walks apiece. Anthony Brewer made some nice catches
in center today and yesterday, I forgot to mention yesterdays diving catch. Rex Rundgren climbed the ladder today at short
and made an all out dive, and caught the ball. That ball was way out of his way. This was in the ninth inning ahead seven runs.
Jeff Fulchino started for the Cougars, he would end up with a no decison. He pitched five innings, giving up six hits. Fulchino
who is in the top ten in strikeouts for the Midwest League, only struck out five. In the fifith inning he
led things off by striking out Henry Encarnacion. Danny Rombley then doubled to left. Greg Thissen then walked. Josh
Labandeira then grounded one to third, Michael Tucker got the ball on the stepped on third, for the force play. Dominick Ambrosini then
grounded one back to Fulchino to end the inning without a run crossing the plate.
Jon Asahina came in and pitched very well. He went three innings, and gave up a hit. He retired the first
seven Kings he faced before giving up a double to Lababdeira. He got out of the
inning with two groundouts to second.
The scoring started in the first inning for the Cougars when, Charles Frazier lead things off by beating out
a grounder to short. Frazier then stole second. Anthony Brewer chased one high fastball, and struck out. Scott Hicks then doubled
to left to score Frazier.
The Lumberkings would tie the game the next half inning when Dominick Ambrosini lead it off by lining one over the head of
left fielder Scott Hicks. Hicks went in instead of back, and the ball went way over his head. Clyde Williams then grounded out to
second, to move Ambrosini to third. David Lutz hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Ambrosini.
Taking the lead in the third inning, the Lumberking sent catcher Drew McMillon up to lead things
off. McMillon doubled to left. Henry Encarnacion struck out. Danny Rombley then grounded out to short, to move McMillon
along. Greg Thissen then nubbed one back towards the mound Fulchino made a dive/fall for the ball, and got the ball. He tried to throw to
first from his back side, but the throw was late, McMillon would score.
Scott Hicks doubled to righ to lead off the third inning. Jason Stokes then blooped one to right to move Hicks
along to third. Heath Kelly hit a sacrifice fly to center. Hicks would score, but one the throw from the center fielder, which was way too high
for anyone to catch, Stokes would move into second base.
The teams continued to trade runs, in the fourth inning with one out Clyde Williams doubled to left. David Lutz
then struck out. Craig Kerner tripled down the rightfield line to score Williams.
The Cougars broke the game wide open in the sixth inning when the Lumberkings took their
starter Ignacio Puello out of the game finally !!. Jason Walker came in and could not find the plate. Michael Tucker lead things
off with a walk. Winton Zapey put down an absoulty perfect sacrifice bunt, it hugged the line. The runners would move up on a wild pitch. Rex Rundgren walked to make it runners
on first and second one out. Charles Frazier grounded out to second to allow Tucker to score. Anthony Brewer walked to load the bases. Scott Hicks would
reach on an error by the second baseman, on the play he couldn't get a grip on the ball, and had no play. Rundgren would score.
The Kings then made another pitching change, this one wasn't going to fare much better for them. Rob Caputo came in the game. Caputo walked both Stokes, which loaded the
bases. Heath Kelly then walked with the bases loaded, to bring home Brewer. Hunter Wyant doubled to center to score both Hicks and Stokes. Michael Tucker walked. Winton Zapey then struck out.
The inning ended with Rundgren grounding out to third.
The icing was put on the cake in the seventh for the Cougars. With one out Charles Frazier walked. Anthony Brewer then tripled to left to
score Frazier. Brewer is a rocket around the bases. Scott Hicks hit a sacrifice liner to center to allow Brewer to tag up and score from third. Jason Stokes
then killed a ball over Louie's Left Field Corner Deck for a long homer to cap off the scoring.
Notes-Lou Evans was sent to Jamestown today, as John Skinner is back
with the Cougars
