Peoria at Kane County

April 26th, 2004

This was a tough game to swallow as the Cougars deffense and pitching didnt show up to the game today. Seven of the eleven walks the Cougars gave out scored, and all three errors didnt help matters much. The worst part was the eighth inning when the Cougars gave up eight runs, including four walks.

This game was just plain old ugly, theres no way around that, this was not a fun game to be at from the Cougars fans perspective, as the game was way to long and it was freezing cold outside. Plus nine of the Chiefs sixteen runs were scored after the vendors stoped serving alcohol, so we had nothing to help us sit through this mauling.

The Chiefs got out to an early lead in the second inning when they scored two runs. Milko Jaramillo lead off by launching one to straight away center field. Dustin Majewski took a dive for the ball but missed it and Jaramillo would get a triple. Majewski would be down for a few minutes but would continue. John Snator then blooped one that looked like it was either going to be caught or go into the stands. Only problem is second baseman Luke Appert went after the ball and with this crazy wind it some how just landed fair. This would be the kind of luck the Cougars would have all day. On the play Jaramillo would score. Matt Pagnozzi and Anthony Monegan then both grounded out to second for the first two outs of the inning. Brenden Ryan would single to short to score Santor.

Three more runs for the Chiefs in the second inning as the Cougars just couldn't buy and out for starter Jose Corchado. Terry Evans led off with a walk. A wild pitch would move him to second. Sal Frisella then walked. Matt Dryer would single to right to score Evans. The right fielder Luis Perez misplayed the ball and both runners would advance a base, with Frisella scoring. After that Cougars manager Dave Joppie had seen enough and brought in Manny Rodriguez. Manny would get Jaramillo to line out to second for the first out. Santor would foul out to first. A wild pitch would score Dryer. Pagnozzi struck out to end the inning.

Belive it or not the Cougars would actually have some offense tonight. In the fifth inning they scored three runs. With one out Majewski walked. Kory Wayment then walked. Luis Perez would reach on a fielder's choice, with Majewski being out at third. Nick Rogers then singled to left to score both Wayment and Perez. Rogers then stole second. Brian Ingram would single to right to score Rogers.

Both teams exchanged runs in the sixth as they each scored twice. In the top of the inning the Chiefs had Pagnozzi lead things off with a walk. Rodrigeuz then tried to pick him off and threw the ball into right field, Pagnozzi made it to second. Monegan hit a liner off of Rodriguez's glove that deflected for a infield single. Ryan hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Pagnozzi. A really wild pitch would take Monegan from first to third. Cody Haerther then walked along with Terry Evans which would load the bases. Frisella hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Monegan. Dryer flew out to right to end the inning.

In the bottom of the inning the Cougars would score when with one out Brian SNyder singled to left. Majewski then hit a homer to right center field. Wayment would single to center. Unfortunatly both Perez and Rogers would strike out to end the inning.

Now the disaster otherwise known as the seventh inning for the Chiefs. Adiel Sanchez came on to start the inning for the Cougars. Jaramillo lines to second for the first out. Santor walks, then steal second. Pagnozzi lines out to center for the second out. Monegan singles to left to score Santor. Brenden Ryan is intentionally walked. Then Haerther walks which loads the bases. Evans singles to left to score both Monegan and Ryan. Haerther and Evans both get into scoring position from an error by left fielder Nick Rogers. Frisella triples to right to score both Haerther and Evans. Dryer would hit one that one hopped the wall in deep center to score Frisella. Jaramillo then comes up again and walks. Santor doubles to left to score both Dryer and Jaramillo. Finally the Cougars bring in a reliever in Brigmer Leon. Pagnozzi greats him with a single to left. Monegan ends the inning finally with a liner to left.

Kane County would chip away at the lead in the eighth with a run of thier own. Eddie Kim reached on an error by shortstop Brenden Ryan. He would get to second on a really wild pitch. Snyder grounded out to second for the first out. Majewski would strike out. Vasili Spanos pitch hit for Wayment and singled to center to score Kim.

Adding another run in the ninth the Chiefs bring it to a ten run lead. With one out Dryer walks. Jaramillo then singles to right. Santor flies to left. Pagnozzi would then double to right to score Dryer.

After a performance like this I am kinda happy the Cougars play a noon game tomorrow maybe then they wont have as much time to think about this embarresment, that was called a ball game. In the bottom of the ninth the Cougars did keep on trying. Rogers lead off with a single to center. The fans behind where I sit, were chanting, ten to tie and eleven to win the whole entire inning so I guess that is a snipit of how the season has gone so far. Because we all were laughing at that, and thankfully there were no beer sales this late, even though we all could've used one. Ingram singled to right. Appert then lined to right. Trevor Brown grounded to first. Finally!! Eddie Kim ended this tortue by grounding out to first.

If anyone has any clue to as the where abouts of both the deffense or the pitching please call the Cougars at 630-232-8811, thanks, and please find them before noon tomorrow, I dont feel like siting through another game like this, plus a noon game with all those kids screaming. Maybe their screams will wake the Cougars up.

The Newest Cougar again, Nick Rogers had a great return to the Elf. As he went two for four, with two runs batted in and a run scored.
