Lugnuts starter Carmen Pignatiello took a no hitter into the sixth inning Thursday night, then watched as his teammates scored two runs in the ninth inning for a 5-3 victory over the West Michigan WhiteCaps at Fifth Third Ballpark.

Eric Brown (1-0) got the win fro Lansing (12-14) in relief of Pignatiello's outing last six innings, as he allowed one hit and four walks.

West Michigan (12-15) scored three times in the eighth inning to tie the game at 3-3, but the Lugnuts came back in the top of the ninith. Mike Mallory singled J.J. Johnson in with the winning run, and Carlos Marmol grounded into a fielder's choice later in the inning for the final margin.

Mallory went 3 for 5, Johnson was 2 for 4 and Brad Bouras was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs.
