Kane County Cougars at Fort Wayne Wizards
May 16th, 2004
Brad Knox was just dominant in his seven innings of work.He gave up four hits and did not walk anyone. Brad struck out eleven, to continue his lead in the Midwest League strikeout race.
Knox retired the first three, then in the second inning he gave up a single to center by Fernando Valenzuela Jr. After that Knox struck out the next three hitters all looking to get out of the inning. The one time he let a Wizard get on second base would be in the fifth inning. With one out Colt Morton doubled to left. Skip Adams then struck out looking for the second out. Casey Baker then struck out to help Knox get out of the inning.
The Cougars on the other hand would have some chances. In the very first inning Luke Appert would double to left with one out, he would get to third on a wild pitch. One out later, Eddie Kim walked. Brian Snyder would then ground out to finish the inning.
In the third inning the Cougars would open up the scoring with a run. Nick Rogers would walk to lead things off. Brian Ingram then singled to right, on the hit Rogers went to third. Appert would then line out to right, Rogers tagged up from third and scored.
Kane County scored two more runs in the sixth. With two outs, Kim walked. Snyder then hit a two run homer to right field.
Fort Wayne made a game of it in the eighth by scoring a couple of runs of thier own. Adams led off with a single to left. Baker then singled to right. Brian Wahlbrink would single to center to score Adams. All of this came off of reliever Brigmer Leon who had just come in to replace Brad Knox. Jairo Garcia came in for Leon after the single. Jordan Pickens was hit by a pitch by Garcia to load the bases. Valenzuela hit a pop up foul to the left side, it would land between David Castillo and Snyder. Valenzuela would follow that second chance with a single to right to score Baker. Mark McRoberts and Rashad Smith then struck out for the first two outs of the inning. Greg Bochy would ground out to second to allow Garcia to get out of the inning with the Cougars still having a one run lead.
