Peoria Chiefs at Kane County Cougars
May 21st, 2004
The game only went into the fifth inning before being cancelled due to heav rain and winds, but it was going to turn into a great pitching duel at the rate the two starters were going.
Brad Knox went for the Cougars and pitched five innings, he gave up three hits and a walk. While also striking out three. He ran into problems int he fifth but was able to get out of it to preserve the scoreless tie. Omar Pena lead off with a single to right. John Santor then reached on a fielder's choice, with Pena being out at second. Mike McCoy was hit by a pitch. Matt Pagnozzi then struck out. On strike three since it was a hit and run, Santor was headed to third, and would be out to end the inning.
Mark Michaels started for the Chiefs and pitched very well in four and two thirds innings. He gave up three hits. The only time the Cougars would look like the could get something going would be in the first inning. With one out Luke Appert doubled to left. David Castillo then grounded one to third, Appert would get caught in a rundown for the second out. Vasili Spanos then singled to center. Brian Snyder would walk which would load the bases. Dustin Majewski grounded one to second, Snyder would be out on the force play to end the inning.
After a single in the third Michaels would retired the next seven in a row. Unfortuantly the game would be called when the skys grew very dark and rain was almost there. The tornado sirens also were going off so you knew the game was going to end. Eventhough it was a great matchup none of the stats will count for the season.
