The Stags won 6 to 1 in a game that was twice interrupted by rain showers and which lasted two hours and 50 minutes. Approximitly 500 fans were on hand for the opening and the more rabid baseball fans remained until the game was over despite the fact that the last two and a half innings were played in a light shower.

Belleville collected 12 hits off two hurlers, while Michaels, Stags moundsman yielded only four.

The Stags got to Frank Blase, starting pitcher for the Pale Hoes, in the second frame and tallied three runs. They followed with another in the fourth, and big McPherson Crum went to the mound for the home nine. Crum held the Stags in .... untill the ninth, when the Mattons garnered two more runs.

Mattoon's lone tally came in the bottom of the ninth when with the bases loaded Michels passed a batter thrs walking in a score.

The Sox's hitting was divided between Buddy Afremow, John Tree and Bill Hornsby, first three in the batting order. Afremow and Hornsby each got one hit in four trips, while Tree collected two in four.

Young Hornsby was cheered by the crowd when he stepped to the plate in the first frame and cracked out a hard clean single. The hit was the first of the game and the first offical safety in the new park. Hornsby also played hit left field position well.

Royce Dossett, centerfielder, won cheers with two top rate throw ins. On one play, Dossett who has a big league throwing arm, took a fly ball in center and made a perfect throw to Earl Ghelf, catcher to cut off a Stag who ran from third after the fly catch. The runner scored however, when Ghelf dropped the ball in taggin him. A little later Dossett went far to his own left to make a catch and then tossed perfectly to third to hold a Stag runner on second.

Blase and Ghelf suffered minor injuries during the game. Blase in knocking down a seven foot high drive, suffered a finger injury and Ghelf sustained a minor spike wound as a Belleville player slid to home base.

The Sox are slated to meet the West Frankfort club on the local diamond at 7:30 o'clock this evening. Sunday's game was called off because of wet grounds.
