Beloit Snappers at Kane County Cougars

May 27th, 2004

The Cougars would lose again to the Beloit Snappers this time 5 to 4. At least they scored four runs and got nine hits, so maybe the offense is only in semi-hibernation.

The Snappers would start the scoring off in the second inning off of Cougar starter Chris Dunwell. Vinny Rottino led things off with a single to center. Adam Heether grounded out to short, on the play Rottino would move along to second. Steve Moss singled to center. The Snappers then had runners on first and third and only one out. Manny Ramriez then tripled to right center field. Centerfielder Dustin Majewski dove for the ball but came up just short. On the play both Rottino and Moss would score. The Cougars then pulled the infield in and got two ground out to short to end the inning without allowing Ramirez to score.

Kane County came back in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half. Eddie Kim led off with a double down the left field line. Brian Snyder would ground to second, moving Kim to third. Majewski then singled to center to score Kim. David Harriman then grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Unfortuantly the Snappers would score two more runs in the third inning to start to pull away a bit. Terry Trofholz led off with a single to left. Drew Anderson would ground one to second, second baseman Luke Appert tried to get the ball to the pitcher Dunwell, who was covering first, but the throw was late, and Anderson would be safe. After a strike out of Lou Palmasiano, and two pitches to Rottino, the Snappers would preform a double steal to get runners to second and third with only one out. Rottino then flew out to center, on the play Trofholz would score the third run for the Snappers. Heether then doubled over the head of Majewski to center, to score Anderson. The inning would end on a Moss strike out.

Things weren't looking to good for the Cougars untill the fifth inning, as besides the second inning the Cougars went down in order in the other innings. In the fifth that changed as the Cougars would score two runs. Majewski led off with a single to right. Harriman then lined to left, the left fielder Anderson made a nice catch. Chris Tritle then hit a two run homer to left. Luis Perez was hit by the next pitch, the pitch was head high, Beloit manager Don Money argued and was tossed. Brian Ingram would walk, to put runners on first and second with only one out. Luke Appert lined deep to center for the second out. David Castillo then hit one right at the second baseman to end the inning.

Beloit added another run in the seventh inning. Trofholz led off with a single back to the pitcher. Anderson then singled to center. Palmasiano hit into a double play, with Troholz scoring from third, and Anderson out at second.

With one out in the eighth the Cougars would make it a game. Castillo walked, and moved to second on a passed ball. Kim doubled off the top of the left center field wall to get Castillo to third. Brian Snyder walked to load the bases with one out. Majewski hit a sacrifice fly to left to allow Castillo to score. The Snappers then made a pitching change, to bring in Dan Grybash to replace Mitch Stetter. The Cougars countered by getting Vasili Spanos to pitch hit for Harriman, Spanos would strike out on four pitches to end the inning.

Tritle led off the ninth inning with a bloop single to center. Perez would reach on a fielder's choice, with Tritle being out at second. Tritle prevented the double play with a nice take out slide. Ingram then singled to right. This put runners on first and third with one out. The Cougars were down by one run. Apper would hit the first pitch he saw to second, the Snappers would get a game ending double play.

Notes-Well lets see, I guess even little old Cub fans can get a trivia question right at the Cougars game (right LuAnn K.)?, and it wasn't even about the Cubs or the Cougars which is amazing.
