The loss snaps Lansing's three game winning streak.,br>
"That's always disappointing but there was still a lot of game left," Lansing manager Julio Garcia said.
Lansing starter Sergio Mitre (2-6) couldn't use the five run cushion to his advantage. Mitre gave up three runs in the second and tw omore in the third.
"Sergio had trouble commanding his fastball," Garcia said. "But the bullpen did a good job when they came in."
Mitre pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up eight hits and seven earned runs.
Lansing won the first game of the series on Tuesday, 11-6. The two teams will continue the four game series today at 3pm at Oldsmobile Park.
In the Lugnuts' five run first, they took advantage of a costly throwing error by Beloit shortstop Ozzie Chavez.
After Lansing's Brad bouras hit an RBI infield single, Chavez's errant throw gave Lansing two more runs.
Mike Mallory added an RBI triple and Lukas McKnight grounded out to score another run in the inning.
"When you jump out to a 5-0 lead you should be able to hold onto that," said Lansing's Ronny Cedeno, who was 2 for 5 with two doubles.
Beloit's Gerald Oakes (2-3) went five innings, giving up six earned runs for the win.
Lansing gave up three runs in the fifth to fall behind 8-6. But Lansing came back with a run in the seventh to close the gap. Bouras' RBI single scored J.J. Johnson to make the score 8-7.
Today, the Lugnuts will send left Adam Wynegar (2-2) to the mound against Beloit's Mike Jones (2-2).
