South Bend Tribune

South Bend SilverHawks pitchers Justin Wechsler and Brian Bruney made a pretty good team Saturday night.

The duo combined to allow just one hit and record 11 strikeouts as South Bend snapped a seven game losing streak with a 1-0 victory over Wisconsin in Midwest League Class A baseball action.

Bryan Leob's two out double in the fourth inning allowed Kervin Jacobo to come around all the way from first base with the game's only tally.

Wechsler (4-4) finished with seven strikeouts and two walks during his 7 2/3 innings. The right hander lost his no hit bid when Shin Soo Choo connected for a two out single in the sixth inning.

Bruney earned his sixth save by fanning all four batters he faced.

Loeb finished with two hits for the Hawks, who stranded eight runners.

The Timber Rattlers didn't get their first hit until there were two outs in the sixth inning, and Shin Soo Choo's single turned out to save them from being no hit in front of a big crowd Saturday as they lost a 1-0 decision to South Bend in a Midwest League game at Fox Cities Stadium.

The only offense in the early innings came in the fourth. South Bend got the leadoff hitter on with a walk, and catcher Bryan Loeb capitalized with a run scoring double to left center field that put the SilverHawks up 1-0.

South Bend pitcher Justin Wechsler got the victory, giving up one hit in 7 2/3 innings.
