After seemingly going 0 for forever, first base never looked better than it did Wednesday night for Joe Mauer.
The Quad City catcher shook off an 0 for 9 effort in his past three games with a 3 for 3 outing that including a double in the River Bandits' 4-2 victory over Beloit at John O'Donnell Stadium.
"I had been swingining at some bad pitches. I saw some good ones tonight, and fortunately I was able to do something with them," said Mauer, who drove in two runs and reached base in each of his four plate appearances.
"Fort us as a team, we needed a game like this. We got guys on base, moved them around and made some things happen."
Four of the River Bandits 10 hits were doubles, including a pair by Garrett Jones, who matched Mauer's three hit game.
Two of Mauer's hits plated Jesus Merchan, including a third inning single that broke a 1-1 tie and moved Quad City ahead to stay.
Two innings later, the same tandem extended the lead to 3-1 on Mauer's double.
That gave the River Bandits (26-29) enough of a lead to overcome a pair of solo home runs by Beloit's Brad Nelson.
The Algona, Iowa native hit his league leading 13th and 14th homers of the season in the first and sixth innings, one half of his hits allowed by Quad City starter Manny Tejada.
The 6 foot 3 right hander struck out seven and did not walk a batter in six innings before Travis Bowyer. Jannio Gutierrez and Josh Daws each recorded a hitless inning of relief work.
Bowyer walked two batters and hit one to load the bases in the seventh, but a double play left the Snappers scoreless.
"That was the turning point for us." acting Bandits manager Floyd Rayford said. "That was what we needed to go with the timely hits Joe gave us. It all fit together."

Jason Kubel grounded out to second. Jake Mauer grounded out to first. Garrett Jones doubled to right, scored when Kaulana Kuhaulua singled to center. Kuhaulua caught stealing.

Barry Quickstad struck out. James Tomlin grounded out to third. Jesus Merchan doubled to right, scoring when Joe Mauer singled to left. Matt Abram singled to right, moving Mauer to second. Jason Kubel flew out to right.
Bandits 5th
Tomlin grounded out to third. Merchan singled to left, scored when Mauer doubled to left. Abram ground out to shortstop. Mauer was picked off at second.
Snappers 6th
Barnwell flew out to right. Nelson homered to right. Villanueva flew out to right. Jason Belcher flew out to left.
Bandits 7th
Kuhaulua was hit by a pitch, took second when Quickstad walked. Kuhaulua advanced to third, Quickstad was forced out on a fielder's choice by Tomlin. Merchan grounded out to third, scoring Kuhaulua and moving Tomlin to second. Mauer walked intentionally, forced out at second on fielder's choice by Abram.
