Kane County Cougars at Quad City River Bandits
June 12th, 2004
The Cougars havent scored a run in 16 innings now against the Swing of the Quad Cities. Today they went down to them 4-0. The Cougars had their chances but a combination of good pitching and no clutch hitting took them down today.
Errol Simontoch pitched six innings of shutout ball. He gave up seven hits and two walks but not much else. The Cougars had a couple of chances to get on the board against him. In the third inning with one out Chris Tritle singled to right, he then stole second base. One out later Luis Perez singled to short. David Castillo then walked to load the bases with two outs. Vasili Spanos would then reach on a fielder's choice, with Castillo being out at second to end the inning.
More frustration in the fourth inning for the Cougars as they had another opportunity to put some runs on the board go to waste. With one out Dustin Majewski singled to center. Kory Wayment would then single to right that would get Majewski to third with only one out. Luke Appert then hit into an inning ending double play. On the play Wayment who was leading off of first base thought he was doubled off the bag, because of a catch by the first baseman , but he didnt catch the ball, so he didnt run.
In the sixth inning with one out Brian Snyder singled to right. One out later Wayment singled to right, to put runners at first and second with two outs. Appert would ground out to second to end the inning. In the seventh inning it was a double play that ended the threat. In the eighth another double play, followed by a strike out would end that inning.
The Swing's offense on the other hand took advantage of most of their opportunies. In the second inning they would get on the boardafter Kyle Phillips led off with a single to right. One out later, Mark Zamojc doubled to right to get Phillips to third. Justin Arneson followed with a groundout to second, on the play Phillips would score. In the fourth inning it was another run by the Swing. With one out Omar Burgos reached on an error by the third baseman. One out later Arneson planted a doubled in the left field corner to drive home Burgos.
The sixth inning saw another crooked number go up on the board for the Swing. Phillips led off with a single to center, he would get to second on a wild pitch. Burgos singled to third, it should've been an error, the throw was low. The Cougars followed that with a pitching change, Brigmer Leon came in to replace Chris Dunwell. Zamojc lined to left. Arneson then would reach on a fielder's choice, with Burgos being out at second. Ryan Spataro then reach on a single to second, on the play Phillips would score. Paul Rutger struck out to end the inning.
The final run came around in a messy eighth inning. Burgos led off with a single to center. Zamojc then reached on a fielder's choice, with Burgos being out at second. Arneson put down a bunt, Manny Rodriguez fielded the ball and threw way wild to first. Zamojc would score on the play. Spataro would then be intentionally walked. Rutgers reached on an error by the shortstop.Arneson stopped at third. Scott Whitrock would strike out for the second out. Ben Pattee would reach on a fielder's choice with Rutgers being out at second to end the inning.
