Kane County Cougars at Lansing Lugnuts

June 17th, 2004

After two days of bloopers and mental errors the Cougars finally win a game the way they have been doing it most of the year. With great pitching and a timely hit. This time it was Brad Knox, Luke Appert and Chris Tritle with the honors.

In the game there was a great pitching duel between two all stars. The Cougars Brad Knox and the Lugnuts, Carlos Marmol. Knox went seven inning, giving up three hits and one run. He struck out nine and walked no one. He retired the final ten Nuts he faced. Marmol pitched well also he went seven innings. Giving up five hits and two runs. Four walked and five strike outs.

The deiffrence in the game was the Cougars sixth inning. But before that the Lugnuts took the lead in the fourth. Brian Dopirak took the lead in the home run race from his teammate with a solo shot to straight away center for his 19th of the year.

The Cougars sixth started with one out, Nick Rogers walked. Luke Appert then took a pitch to right field for his seventh homer of the year. More importantly it ment a two run lead.

In the ninth inning the Cougars scored an insurance run. With one out Dustin Majewski walked, he went to second on a passed ball. One out later, Chris Tritle hit a triple that just got past the third base man and went into the left field corner. Majewski would score.

After Knox left the game Jose Corchado came in for an inning. He got Alberto Garcia and Drew Larsen on strikes. Then he got Tony McQuade looking to end the inning. Great job by Corchado.

In the bottom of the ninth Jairo Garcia was just over powering. He struck out Robinso Chirinos for the first out. Carlos Rojas then grounded to short. Dopirak then hit a broken bat single to left that Wayment dove for and almost got. Kevin Collins then would ground out ot first to end the game.
