Burlington Bees at Kane County Cougars
June 20th, 2004
The Cougar held on to a two runs lead in winning the final game of the first half over the Burlington Bees 4-2. They got the hit they needed when they needed it, after falling behind. The hit that put them ahead was a two run homer by Kory Wayment in the sixth.
Jared Trout started and went six solid innings, he gave up seven hits. Trout was in trouble basically half the time, the only innings that he wasn't in trouble are the ones when he got the Bees in order. In all he gave up two runs and two walks, he also struck out seven.
The Bees caused trouble from the get go. Chris Lubanski led off the game with a single to first, he then stole second. Angel Sanchez would follow with a single to third. That ment first and third with no outs. Mitch Maier then struck out. Kenard Springer would ground out to first. Kila Kaaihue walked which loaded the bases with two outs. Luis Gonzalez struck out to end the inning.
Kane County's offense would get going in the second with one run. Trevor Brown led it off with a double into the right field corner. Kory Wayment would single to left, Brown went to third. A wild pitch would move Wayment to second. David Harriman walked, which loaded the bases with no outs. Chris Trittle struck out. Brian Ingram would fly to right, Brown tagged up and scored. Nick Rogers would strike out to end the inning.
The Bees would tie the game in the fourth inning. Springer singled to right to lead things off. Kaaihue then doubled to center to score Springer. Kaaihue got caught between second and third in a rundown for the first out. Gonzalez would ground out. Brandon Powell singled to center. Bryan Graham then struck out to end the inning.
Chris Lubanski hit a one out solo homer in the fifth to give the Bees the lead. In the sixth ininng with two outs, Brown would walk. Wayment then took the third pitch he saw into the left field party deck for a two run homer to give the Cougars the lead.
The Cougars wernt done. In the eighth they put up an insurance run and could've had more. Dustin Majewski led off with a single to short. Brown then walked. Wayment moved the runners along with a bunt. The Cougars then brought in Luke Appert to run for Brown at second. Harriman was intentionally walked to load the bases. Tritle would get some wood ont he ball, and fly to center, Majewski tagged up and scored. Brian Ingram would pop out to right to end the inning.
Jairo Garcia and Manny Rodriguez did nice jobs out of the pen. Rodriguez had to get out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh. Graham led off with a single to left. Jeff Barry bunted him to second. Lubanski would strike out for the second out. Angel Sanchez walked. Both runners moved up on a balk. Mitch Miaer was then intentionally walked, which loaded the bases. Springer then grounded out to second to end the inning. Jairo Garcia came in and pitched two shutout innings, to pick up his 16th save.
