Kane County Cougars at Peoria Chiefs
June 30th, 2004
The Cougars beat the Chiefs six to three. Brad Knox picked up his eighth win of the season, and J.R. Pickens picked up his third save.
The Cougars would strike first in the second inning. Brian Snyder led off with a double down the right field line. Dustin Majewski would follow with a two run homer to left center.
Peoria followed that up with a single run in the bottom of the inning. Tyler Parker led off with a single back to the pitcher. Daric Barton would line out to first, Parker would be caught off of first for a double play. John Paul Davis then hit a homer to left field.
Kane County got single runs in the fourth and the fifth innings. In the fourth, with one out Eddie Kim singled to center. Luis Perez then doubled to left, Kim would hustle into third. Nick Rogers then walked to load the bases with only the one out. Luke Appert would then pop out to short. David Castillo walked, which forced in Kim. The Chiefs then brought in a reliever. Brandon DeJaynes came in for Cristobal Correa. DeJaynes threw a wild pitch, Perez tried to score and would be thrown out to end the inning.
In the fifth inning, Vasili Spanos led off with a single to third. Snyder then walked. Majewski would strike out for the first out. Kory Wayment flew to right, Spanos tagged up and went to third. Both runners would move up on a passed ball. Spanos scored.
Jarrett Hoffpauir hit a solo homer down the left field line in the fifth to bring the Chiefs a little bit closer. In the seventh inning, the Chiefs would score another run. With one out, Davis doubled to right. Joe Mather then grounded out to short, David would get to third on the play. Hoffpauir then singled to third. Thirdbaseman Snyder tried to gun him out but the throw was off, and David would score. He should've held onto the ball. The Cougars then made a pitching change to bring in Jaret McAuliff to replace Brad Knox. The Chiefs countered with Terry Evans pitch hitting for Matt Pagnozzi. Evans struck out to end the inning.
In the eighth inning the Cougars would get those runs back with two of their own. Kim led off with a walk. Luis Perez then bunted one in front of home plate. The catcher threw to the short stop to get Kim out on the force at second. Nick Rogers then grounded one to the short stop, who tried to get the force at second, but the throw went into right field. Perez would score on the play. Peoria made a pitching change to bring in Justin Brown to replace DeJaynes. Appert greated him with a single to left to score Rogers. Castillo then followed that up with a single to left. Spanos would strike out for the second out of the inning. Brian Snyder then was caught window shopping for the third out.
