Kane County Cougars at Peoria Chiefs
July 1st, 2003
The Cougars have now won all six of the games this year against the Chiefs, with their four to nothing win tonight. Steve Obenchain made his first start for the Cougars.
The game was scoreless going into the fifth inning. Marcus McBeth tripled to left to led things off. Nick Rogers then grounded out to second, on the play McBeth would score. John Mccurdy then flew out to left. John Baker then hit a homer to left to put the Cougars up two.
In the sixth the Cougars scored two more runs. Francis Gomez led off with a single to left. Brian Stavisky then singled to center. Chris Tritle put down a bunt to move the runners along. McBeth singled to left to score Gomez. Rogers then hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Stavisky.
Obenchain pitched into the seventh, giving up nine hits. He walked one, and he struck out two. Shawn Kohn then came in and pitched the final two and one third innings, giving up nothing but one walk.
The Cougars had a chance to score right off the bat in the first. With two outs Baker singled to center. Jason Basil then walked. Brant Colamarino then lined out to left to end the inning.
