Quad City RiverBandits at Kane County Cougars
July 8th, 2004
The Cougars had a lot of trouble in the game tonight as they basically did nothing. The Swing just outhit them, they would win ten to two but it was a lot worse than that. The Cougars made five errors and looked horrible.
The miserable time would start in the first inning for the Cougars. J.R. Taylor led off with a triple to center. Dustin Majewksi tried to catch it on the dive but missed. JustinArneson then walked. Cougars starter Jared Trout then did what he was supposed to do and get Kyle Phillips to hit into a double play, Taylor would score on the play.
The game would be tied in the third inning when the Cougars scored one run. Kory Wayment led off with a double to left. Chris Tritle would pop up foul to the second baseman, only problem was that he would drop the ball and give Tritle life in the at bat. Tritle ended up lining out to center for the first out, Wayment tagged up and went to third. Nick Rogers hit the ball to the right side and got Wayment in.
Luis Perez led off the third inning for the Cougars and doubled to center. Brian Snyder would get Perez to third with a single to right. Vasili Spanos then flew out to center, Perez would tag up and score to give the Cougars the lead.
Then things would fall apart for the Cougars fast. In the fifth inning the Swing scored six runs, the Cougars commited two errors, and were lucky they survived the inning.Scott Whitrock led off with a walk. Alex Garcia then singled to right. Paul Rutgers singled to right to allow Whitrock to score and tie the game at two. Taylor would then hit a double downt he right field line to score Garcia. Arneson reached on a error by Luke Appert. He dropped the ball, Rutgers and Taylor scored. Arneson would get to second on a botched pick off throw by Trout. Phillips walked. The Cougars then brought in Manny Rodriguez for Trout. Brock Peterson walked to load the bases. Mark Zamojc would ground into a double play for the first two outs of the inning, only problem was that Arnseon would score. Kyle Geiger hit a ground rule double to center to allow Phillips to score. Whitrock then came up and to bat again, and this time would strike out, to thankfully end the inning.
If that wasnt bad enough the Swing added two more runs in the seventh inning off of Rodriguez. With two outs, Peterson singled to left. Zamojc then walked. Geiger was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The Cougars thought the ball hit the bat and Cougar manager Dave Joppie came out to argue a bit. Whitrock would single to left to bring home both Peterson and Zamojc. On the relay throw to the plate, the ball went through catcher Trevor Brown's legs and that allowed Whitrock to get to second. The Cougars then brought in another pitcher. Justin Crowder then came on and struck out Garcia to end the inning.
One more run for the Swing, this time in the eighth inning, and two Cougar errors would play a part in the run. Crowder was still on to pitch, he struck out both Paul Rutgers and J.R. Taylor for the first two outs. Arneson reached on an error by the short stop Wayment. Kyle Phillips was hit by a pitch, the Cougars thought he swung at it, I think he did. He was awarded first on the hit batter. Peterrson then grounded one to first, the Cougars tried for an easy three to one putout, but the ball was over thrown for another error. Arneson would score on the error. Phillips got to third and Peterson went to second. Zamojc would strike out for the third out.
In the final three and two third innings the Swing pen threw perfection at the Cougars. The Cougars didnt have a hit the final six inning of the game. Too bad the Cougars pen wasn't as effective.
