July 19th, 2004

The Cougars sweep the season series with the West Michigan Whitecaps, they took all eight. Trent Peterson piched a good game. He went seven innings, giving up five hits and one run. He walked two and struck out six.

He really only got into trouble twice. In the sixth he would get out of a bases loaded situation. With one out Juan Francia singled to left. Vince Blue then singled to center. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch. One out later Kody Kirkland would be hit by a pitch to load the bases, with two outs. Luis Sabino flew out to center to end the inning.

In the seventh inning he wouldn't be so lucky to get out of it unscaved. Garth McKinney led off with a single to second. Eric Rodland bunted him over to second. Nate Doyle grounded out to third for the second out. Alex Graham then singled to right to secore McKinney.

Meanwhile the Cougars would put up six runs in the game and have their way with the Whitecaps pitching. In the second inning they almost started it off. Eddie Kim led off with a single to center. Vasili Spanos then singled to center. Dan Putnam would hit into a double play, Kim went to third. Dustin Majewski then struck out to end the inning.

In the third inning the Cougars would get on the board with a run. Trevor Brown started it off with a double to right. One out later, Brian Ingram singled to center. Luis Perez followed that with a single to center which would score Brown. David Castillo then hit into an inning ending double play. That would be all the scoring the Cougars would get intill a big eighth inning.

Five runs in the eighth would seal the game up for the Cougars. Perez led off with a bunt single, the catcher got the ball and tried to get Perez at first but the throw went into right field, and Perez went to second. Castillo singled to right to get Perez to third. The Caps then made a pitching change bringin in Kenon Ronz to replace Chris Homer. Kim then singled to center to score Perez. Kim would be pitch run for by Nick Rogers. Spanos single to left to load the bases. Dan Putnam struck out for the first out. Majewski popped out ot third. The Caps made another pitching change this time bringin in Brian Santo to replace Ronz. It didnt help much. Brown greated him with a single to left to drive home both Castillo and Rogers. Luke Appert followed that with a single to left to drive in Spanos and Brown. The inning would end when Appert got picked off of first.
