Kane County Cougars at Clinton Lumberkings

July 22nd, 2004

The Cougars somehow when they loose they loose bad it seems, as they didnt have one of their better games today. Then again Clinton has the second best offense to the Cougars in the league.

It seemed like nothing went right for the Cougars as they couldnt get anything going on offense untill the sixth inning and by that time they were already down by six.. Luke Appert, Dan Putnam, and Dustin Majewski were bright spots in the Cougars offense as all of them had two hits.

Clinton's offense just jumped on Cougar starter Brad Knox from the begining, but he would make some adjustments and keep the Cougars in the game. In the first inning the Kings scored three times. With one out Brendedn Cashmen singled to left. Andrew Wishy then took Knox deep to right center. Josh Kruezer followed that with a homer to left center. Knox came back and struck out Dane Bubela and Kevin Richardson looking to end the inning.

One more run in the second, but it could've been worse. Emerson Frostad led off with a single to left. Cody Clark then singled to left. Casey Benjamin woule ground one to second. The Cougars got Clark on the force, it could've been a double play but Wayment droped the ball as he was transfering the ball to his hand. Micah Furtado then grounded out to third, Frostad would score on the play. Cashmen walked. A wild pitch would then move both runners into scoring position. Wishy would be caught looking to end the inning.

Things started off bad in the third , Knox pitched out of it though. Kruezer led off with a double down the left field line, he then stole second. Knox would then strike out both Bubela and Richardson. Frostad would fly to center to end the inning. Brad's final inning would be the fourth. He opened it with two strike outs. Furtado reached on an error. Knox then got Cashmen looking to end the inning.

Unfortunatly the runs wouldnt stop there for the Kings. In the fifth and sixth they would score once each. The fifth had Wishy led off with a double to left. According to our announcer it landed foul, but was called fair. Kruezer followed that with a single to right. Bubela would then reach on a fielder's choice, with Kruezer being out at second, and Wishy would score. In the sixth inning Casey Benjamin led off with a single to center. The Cougars then made a pitching change. Dan Fyvie came in for Manny Rodriguez. Furtado would reach on a fielder's choice with Benjamin being out at second, Furtado thens tole second. On the fielder's choice it could've been a double play but Appert droped a liner, and had to settle on the easy out at second. Cashmen would then walk. Wishy would single to short. On the play Cashmen beat Appert to the second base bag for the force out, so everyone was safe and the bases were loaded. Fyvie struck out Kruezer looking. Bubela would walk, which forced in Furatdo. Richardson then grounded out to second to end the inning.

The Cougars did score twice int he game, once in the sixth and then once in the seventh. In the sixth, Luis Perez led off with a double to center. Appert then singled to right. One out later, the Kings made a pitching change, they took out their starter Brian Mattoon and brought in Cesar Herrera. Vasili Spanos would hit a fly to center, Perez tagged up from third and would score to break up the shutout. In the seventh inning, Majewski led off with a single to left. Kory Wayment would get called out on strikes for the first out. Nick Rogers then singled to left. Perez would then get called out on strikes. Appert singled to right, which would allow Majewski to score. David Castillo grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning.

Brian Matton pitched very well for the Kings. He went five innings of three hit ball. He would give up one run, and two walks. He struck out six Cougars.
