Eventhough the Cougars couldnt put out their best lineup today, with a patch work infield the Cougars were able to get 14 hits and 8 runs.
In the early going though it was a pitching duel, between two top propects. The Cougars had Chris Dunwell on the mound, and the Rattlers had Ryan Feierabend for them.
Dunwell had a no hitter going into the fourth inning with one out. George Sandel singled up the middle. Adam Jones then reached on a fielder's choice, with Sandel being out at second. Bryan LaHair then clobberd a homer to center field.
The fifth inning saw the Rattlers strand two runners on base, The runners getting on base were not Dunwells fault. With one out Eric Blakeley grounded one to short stop Jesse Acosta, who air mailed a throw to first for an error. The next hitter was Mike Nesbit who grounded one off of third baseman Kory Wayment shins for an error. Justin Ruchti would reach on a fielder's choice, with Nesbit being out at second. This ment runners on first and third with two outs. Josh Womack would strike out to end the inning.
Dunwell the escape artist had to work his magic twice more in the game. In the sixth inning with one out. The Rattlers found the hole in Wayments glove again. Jones would reach on the error. LaHair then grounded out to second, to move Jones to second. Chris Collins walked. With runners on first and second with two outs, Colton would ground into the force at second to end the inning.
Eric Blakeley led off the seventh with a hustle double to left. Mike Nesbit tried to move the runner along but popped up the bunt for the first out. Ruchti then struck out. Dunwell threw the first two pitches as balls to Womack, so the Cougars then decided to intentionally walk him. Sandel lined out to right to end the inning.
Feierabend went seven inning for the Rattlers, he gave up seven hits and two runs. The first five inning the Cougars really didnt do much against him. The Cougars had chances they just couldnt hit the ball were the wernt.
In the first inning with one out, Luke Appert singled to left. Luis Perez then singled to center. With runners on first and second with only one out. Dan Putnam lined to center. Kory Wayment then struck out to end the inning. The Cougars would run themselves out of the third inning after Nick Rogers had a one out single to center. He would get picked off of first base.
In the fifth inning Dustin Majewski led off with a single to center. Trevor Brown then walked. Feierabend then got David Harriman to strike out. Jesse Acosta would ground into an inning ending double play.
Cougar trainer Justin Whitehouse, had to have found the smelling salt for the bats as they woke up starting in the sixth inning. Nick Rogers led off with a single to left. One out later, Perez doubled to left, Rogers went to third. Putnam grounded out to second, on the play Rogers would score. Perez would come home on a wild pitch. Wayment grounded out to second to end the inning.
Wow, four runs in an inning, courtesy of the Rattlers bullpen. Rogers led off with a walk. Appert then doubled to center, Rogers went to third. Perez would be caught window shopping for the first out. Putnam was intentionally walked to load the bases. Wayment then singled to center to score Rogers. The Rattlers then made a pitching change. Ciccotelli then struck out Majewski. After that Wisconsin then made another pitching change bring in Mike Hyrino. Hyrino walked Brown with the bases loaded to force in Appert. David Harriman then singled to center to score both Putnam and Wayment. Eddie Kim would pitch hit for Acosta and strike out.
Rogers had a great game, and to cap it off he led off the ninth with a single to center, then stole second. Two outs later, Dan Putnam blasted a homer to left center. After the homer Majewski singled to center. Brown the followed with a single to center. With runners on first and second with two outs, Harriman lined out to first.
Jose Corchado pitched very well. He came in for relief of Dunwell. He struck out five and had two, two out walks. Nick Rogers had three hits and was on base four times. He also scored three runs. Putnam drove home three runs, and scored twice.
