The Cougars offense just cant seem to stay in gear, as they would score two runs on nine hits. They left on seven runners, five in scoring position.
The pitching well, besides one bad pitch from Cougar starter Trent Peterson, he did ok. Granted he had to get out of a lot of trouble in the first three inning, with runners on base constantly, but he was able to.
In the first inning, Peterson walked Brandon Cashman to lead off the game. Abigal Sandoval then hit one back to Peterson who air mailed the throw to first baseman Eddie Kim. Peterson then got Micah Furtado to strike out for the first out. With a three and one count on Justin Hatcher, Cashman took off for third, and would be out. Hatcher then struck out on the next pitch to get Peterson out of trouble.
The second inning is the inning that gave Peterson the most trouble as the Kings scored twice. Andrew Wishy led off with a single to center. Kevin Richardson then hit into a double play. Ok, runners off the bases, that disaster is over. Emerson Frostad then doubled to left. Cody Clark then takes a pitch over the left center field wall for a two run homer. The pitch before the homer, Cougar manager Dave Joppie thought that Clark swung on the check swing, and after the homer he went nuts, and was ejected. I dont remember the swing to now if he went around or not.
The next three innings Peterson would have one runner on each, and would be able to get out of it without any trouble. In the third a double play took away a leadoff single. In the fourth two strike outs and a caught stealing erased a leadoff single. In the fifth a two out single would go away with a strike out to end the inning.
The Cougars offense was hit or miss all day, they just kept stranding runners again. In the second inning with one out David Castillo singled to left. Dan Putnam then reached on an error by the second baseman. Kory Wayment then would reach on a fielder's choice, Putnam was out at second. Runners on first and third with two outs. Dustin Majewski then popped out to short to end the inning.
In the third inning they would strand two more runners. With one out, Brian Ingram singled to center. Luis Perez then singled to left. Luke Appert flew out to right, Ingram would tag up and get to third. Perez then stole second. Eddie Kim then struck out to strand the runners.
Fianlly in the fourth inning the Cougars would score a run. David Castillo led off with a single to right. A wild pitch moved him to second. Putnam then struck out. Wayment would be called out on strikes. Majewski singled to left to score Castillo. Majewski was then picked off of first base to end the inning.
Brigmer Leon struck out the side in the seventh after coming on to replace Peterson. In the eighth he would give up the winning run, or should I say the Cougars gave up the winning run. Cody Clark would walk to lead off. Casey Benjamin pitch ran for him. Larry Grayson then bunted Benjamin to second. Cashman would reach on an error by Appert. Clark moved to third. The Lumberkings then surprised some people with the sweeze play, but hey it worked and then run scored.
Dan Fyvie pitched a perfect ninth inning with three ground balls. The Lumberkings reliever Cesar Herrera pitched two and one third perfect ball to close things out and get the win.
The Cougars made a roster move today as J.R. Pickens went on the disabled list. Dallas Barden came up from Vancouver.
