The newest Cougars Dallas Braden pitched a good game, it was just too bad the offense really couldnt help him that much. The Cougars got 13 hits and four runs, they left on 12 runners and 9 of them in scoring position. The third and fourth innings they did nothing
Most of the offense did nothing, Brian Ingram had a great game. He had three hits and was a triple away from the cyle. He hit a homer and drove in two runs. Ingram also scored twice and reached base four out of the five times he came to the plate. Eddie Kim had three hits and drove in two runs.
Braden pitched very well, he was able to get out of a jam in the first. Brandan Cashman led off the game with a single to center. Abigal Sandoval then reached on an error by third baseman Kory Wayment. Cashman would get to third. First and third with nobody out, in your debut at this level. Dallas got Micah Furtado to strike out. Justin Hatcher then popped out to second. Kevin Rochardson would hit the fourth pitch for a homer downt he left field line. The only good news was that it was a loud strike. Two pitches later he would strike out to end the inning.
Braden would then follow by striking out the side in the second inning. In the third he gave up a leadoff double to center. Cashman would then strike out. Sandoval would then double to center to score Cashman. Furtado then singled to right to score Sandoval. Furtado then stole second. Hatcher would strike out for the second out. Richardson grounded out to second to end the inning.
The Cougars would score two runs in the first two innings. Brian Ingram led off with a homer that just made it on to the deck in right. Two outs later though the Cougars would be at it once again with stranding runners. Eddie Kim singled to center. David Harriman then doubled to right, Kim went to third. Dan Putnam grounded out to second, on the play I think he would've been safe and the bases would've been loaded but the ump and I disagree again.
In the second inning, Dustin Majewski led off with a single to short. Kory Wayment then singled to left. Nick Rogers would strike out, on the third strike Majewski would swipe third. Ingram then blooped one that fell just in front of the centerfielder to allow Majewski to score. Luke Appert then singled to right, for some reason Wayment wasnt able to score on the play from second. Two pitches later David Castillo would ground into an inning ending double play.
A double play would get the Cougars out of trouble in the fourth inning, then they went to the bullpen in the sixth and the trouble began again. Mike McGirr came out of the pen first. He would walk Furtado. The second pitch to Hatcher went wild and Furtado would get to second. Hatcher lined out to center for the first out. On fourth pitch to Richardson, Furtado stole third. Catcher David Castillo threw the ball into left field and Furtado would be able to walk home to give the Lumberkings the lead. A couple of pitches later Richardson walked. Cougar manager Dave Joppie then brought out the hook for McGirr and brought in Brigmer Leon. Leon got Emerson Frostad to fly to center, and Larry Grayson to ground to second to get out of further trouble.
That getting out of trouble wouldn't last long as Leon saw some of his own the next inning. Cody Clark led off by hitting a liner off of Leons foot, the ball bounced to third baseman Kory Wayment who threw to first to get the out. It was a nice play, and they just got him. Leon then struck out Dane Bubela. Cashman then hit a homer off of the scoreboard in left center to pad the Kings lead. Sandoval then grounded out to second. Luke Appert made a great play to get him at first.
The Cougar were frustrating in the fifth inning as they left another couple of runners on base. Ingram led off with a double to right. One out later Castillo was hit by a pitch. First and second with one out, Eddie Kim goes fishing and strikes out. Harriman then grounds out to short to end the inning. In the sixth inning more fun. Dan Putnam leads off with a single to short. Majewski grounds to second, Putnam moves to second. Wayment get one deep enough for Putnam to tag up and go to third with two outs. Rogers then lines out to right to end the inning.
Thankfully they would score one run in the seventh inning. Ingram led off with a walk. Appert was then hit by a pitch. Castillo then grounds to third, both runners move up a base. Kim singles to left, Ingram would score, and somehow Appert would be out at home. I thought he was safe. After that the Kings made a pitching change. Harriman struck out to end the inning.
You'd think this team enjoys making their fans shake their heads sometimes, the way they leave all of these runners on base but it's just frustrating to watch the best offense in the league sputter around with their two best hitters not in the lineup. In the eighth they would leave two more runners on base. With two outs, Wayment blooped one into center field. Rogers then doubled to right, Wayment was held at third? Ingram then almost had one down the right field line but it went foul. He would fly to center to end the inning.
Clinton would add a run in the top of the ninth after an error. Frostad led off with a walk. Grayson bunted him over to second. Clark would then lineout to right field for the second out. The Cougars then brought in Justin Crowder to pitch to Bubel. He would reach on an error by Eddie Kim. The ball hit his heal and went through his legs and into right field as he tried to bend down to get it. On the play Frostad scored an important insurance run. Crowder then struck out Cashman looking to get out of the inning.
The Cougars would break out the ant-acid pills for thier fans as they would need it byt he time the innings was over. Appert led off with a walk. Castillo then reached on an error by the third baseman, on the play he bobbled it and then threw high to first. Kim singled to center to score Appert to bring the Cougars within one run. Men on first and second and nobody out in the bottom of the ninth. Joppie then pitch ran Jesse Acosta for Kim. Harriman was asked to bunt on the first two strikes and fouled then away. He then was able to get a bunt down but ont he first base side. The first baseman was able to get the ball and throw to third to get Castillo out for the first out. The return throw to first almost got Harriman as he was trying to get down the line. The Cougars still had men on first and second and now one out. Chris Tritle came on to pitch run for Harriman, the hopeful winning run. The Kings would then counter with Chris Cordeiro out of thier pen. Dan Putnam flew out to right for the second out. Unfortunatly it wasnt even far enough for Acosta to tag up and get to third with the tying run. Dustin Majewski would hit the fifth pitch he saw as a bouncer to second, Tritle would be out on the force play to end the game.
