The Queen and Her Maids did their thing at Memorial stadium Saturday night and then it was Dubuque pitcher Jose Alfaro's turn to do his thing. Alfardo twirled his way to a no hitter against the silent bats of the Cedar Rapids Giants to the tune of a 5-0 score.

Alfaro was never in a jam in winning his 13th game in 19 decisions. Walking three and striking out five, Alfaro seemed to throw as hard in the ninth inning as he did in the first.

The Astros struck early, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning on three singles and a fielding error. In the third inning, they added another run when Terry Puhl led off with a walk, advanced to second on an infield out and scored on a sharp single by catcher Luis Pujols.

In the top of the sixth with one out, Al Osofsky singled to center, Kevin Drake walked and Jeff Smith was safe at first on an infield hit to load the bases. Shortstop Arnaldo Alvarado then laced a liner into center field plating both Osofsky and Drake with the final two runs of the game.

Giants starter Terry Kenny went five and two thirds inning allowing eight hits and four earned runs before giving away to Barney Wilson. Kenny walked three and struck out four as his record droped to 2-5 this year.

Joe Heinen and Wayne Bradley finished up the pitching chore for the Giants as they combined to blank the Astros the final three innings.

Giant second sacker Mike Cash had his 10 game hitting streak halted as he went 0 for 3. For the Giants it was their fourth straight defeat and their 24th in their last 27 games.
