Trent Peterson pitched his best game as a Cougars. He pitched a complete game three hitter in shuting out the South Bend Silver Hawks 6-0. Peterson retired the first seven in a row before giving up a double to Alberto Gonzalez. He was never really in that much trouble even with a leadoff double in the eighth by Lino Garcia.
The offense took care of the rest getting eight hits and six runs. In the second inning Vasili Spanos led it off with a double down the left field line, he the stole second base. One out later with the infield in, Dan Putnam would reach on a fielder's choice, Spanos would be out at the plate. Trevor Brown and Kory Wayment walked which would load the bases. Chris Tritle singled to left, Putnam scored easily. Brown ran over the catcher and jarred the ball loose, Tritle would get to second on the throw home. Nick Rogers grounded out to end the inning.
With two outs in the third inning, Spanos tripled off the right field wall. Yes he tripled, ok the right fielder crashed into the wall and fell down which led to the triple. Brian Snyder then nubbed one to the left side of the infield. The pitcher and third baseman collide on the play, its called a hit, and Spanos scored. Putnam walked. Brown then flew out to center to end the inning.
In the fifth inning with one out, David Castillo singled to center. Spanos walked. Snyder flew to center, on the play Castillo tagged up and went to third. Putnam doubled to left to score both Castillo and Spanos to make it a five to nothing game. The Hawks then made a pitching change. Brown would be caught looking to end the inning.
With two outs in the sixth the Cougars would have Rogers and Luke Appert walk. Castillo lined to center to finish the inning. In the seventh Spanos led off with a walk. Snyder doubled to center to score Spanos.
