COUGARS FALL APART IN 9TH

The Cougars had a shut out untill the ninth when they allowed four runs to the Beloit Snappers to tie the game, then they lost it in extra innings for their second straight lost.

The Cougars just fell apart in the ninth as two errors by the left side of the infield help in the effort. Brandon Sloan was pitching during that time, and he has been good except for today. He walked one and gave up three hits in the inning of work for him. Without help from the deffense this probly would've been another Cougars victory.

On the good side Mike McNutt made an emergencey start and went five very solid innings, only giving up two hits. Mike did not walk anybody and struck out three. He retired the first six men he faced, and the last six.

Chris Key also pitched well out of the bullpen with two solid innings, only getting four strikeouts. Steve Sawyer went an inning and gave up a hit.

Offensivly the Cougars were not very productive. The Snappers struck out eleven in the game and I'd say that at least half, maybe three fourths of those strikeouts were looking. I know the weather was cold (will get to that point later) but come on at least swing at the pitch. Most of the strikeouts were in the first half of the game.

Jim Kavourias was the lone offensive bright spot as he had three hits.

The scoring started for the Cougars early when in the first with one out Will Smith singled to left, then stole second. One out later Jim Kavourias walked. Pat Magness then singled to right to score Smith. Miguel Cabrera then singled to center to score Kavourias. Magness would move to third on the play, and score on a wild pitch.

The Cougars added one more in the fifth when Will Smith lead it off with a walk, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Adrian Gonzalez then grounded to second, but on the play Smith moved along to third. Kavourias then singled to left to score Smith.

Things began to fall apart in the ninth when Dave Kryznel lead off the inning with a single to center. Todd West then walked. Obispo Brito was next and he grounded to first to move the runners along. Eliezer Alfonzo reached on an error by shortstop Miguel Cabrera, the ball went through his legs. On the play Kryznel would score. Daryl Clark then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score West. Derry Hammond then doubled to right to score Alfonzo. Hector Garcia would then reach on a throwing error by third baseman Josh Willingham, he shorthopped Gonzalez and the ball got away. Hammond would score on the play to tie the score.

More fielding blunders in the tenth when Dave Kryznel reached on a good bunt to the third base side that Willingham couldn't get to in time. Messenger then tried to pick him off and the throw went into right field, Kryznel would make third base on the play. Todd West came up with the infield in, and lined one to second baseman Kevin Hooper who made a good play to catch the ball, and hold Kryznel at third. Obispo Brito then hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Kryznel.

Notes-Chip Ambres was pulled halfway in the game for some reason.

Ok time to get to the weather, well it was 35 degress at game time, and during the game it was snowing lightly. The wind was also howling again.

Oh yeah-Error on the guy in 107, row R, seat 2, I know it's could but the ball went right threw his hands, come on.

I will be in Clinton tomorrow to see the Cougars play and maybe on Wednesday so don't expect the reviews till the next day at the earliest.
