Sunday, April 27th, 2003
New Veterans Memorial Stadium, Cedar Rapids, Iowa

3 out of 4 Ain't Bad

Cedar Rapids started out like the Cougars did the day before. They scored four runs in the first two innings, then added two more in the fourth to take the fourth game of the series 6-2.

Joe Blanton started for the Cougars and got hit hard, but was able to get out of a couple of jams to only give up the six runs.

Kory Wayment continued his hot hitting by hitting a homer onto the deck in left field to lead off the game.

The Kernels got on the board in the first. With one out Quan Cosby singled to second, he then stole second. Alberto Callaspo lined to left. Jared Abruzzo popped one up that fell between the left fielder and the shortstop for a run scoring double. Eric Aybar follwed that up with a homer to right field.

Matt Brown lead off the second inning by reaching on an error by center fielder Nelson Cruz. I believe the sun just got in his eyes. Brown would end up on second. Ransel Melgarejo grounded to first, which moved Brown along to third. B.J.Weed then hit a sacrifice fly to left to allow Brown to score. Quad Cosby single to left. Callasp then singled to right on the hit and run play. Cosby stoped at third. Abruzzo would end the inning by grounding out to second.

Blanton got out of some trouble in the third. With one out Jake Mathis singled to right. Alex Dvorsky singled to center. That moved Mathis to third with only one out. Matt Brown flied to right for the second out. Melgarejo then lined out to second to end the inning.

With two outs in the fourth, Callaspo singled to short. Abruzzo then doubled to right to score Callaspo. Aybar also doubled to right to score a run. Mathis would strike out to end the inning.

The Couars did put together another inning with runners on to try to get into the game. With one out in the sixth, Wayment walked. John Suomi then doubled to right to score Wayment to cut the lead to four. Brant Colamarino flied to center for the second out. John Baker walked. The Kernels brought in another pitcher. Nelson Cruz would then strike out to end the inning.

The Cougars bullpen, who came in for the sixth inning pitched three shutout innings. They only gave up one hit and walked one. Shawn Kohn, Brigmer Leon and Chris Shank worked.

Notes-Well going to Cedar Rapids was fun, the first time I saw the new stadium. It was interesting, it looked like a mix of Lansing and Peoria plus a few other parks. The food was not to good, but the stadium was great I rank the hotdogs even below the dogs at the Elf. Its now on to the wonderful? stadium in Burlington for the next three games then finally home.

This Day In Cougars History (April 27)

1993, Cougars 1B Todd Pridy's homer and double lead the Cougars to a 3-2 win over Waterloo.

1997, Tony Peter's 9th inning homer over the blue barn in left field is the only run of the day as the Beloit Snappers defeat the Cougars 1-0.

Notes-The website probly wont be updated till i get home on Thursday, Im having some mobile internet problems right now so it should be updated on Thursday before that evenings game.

Thanks
