The Cougars lost to the Wizards of Fort Wayne by two runs. Kane County
actually put two of those runs up in the ninth inning before the Wizards brought
in their closer to shut the door on them.
Drew Dickinson did not
have one of his best games, he lasted into the sixth inning, giving up nine hits
and five runs. He did get out of some trouble in the first though. With two
outs, L.J.Biernbaum singled to right. Paul McAnulty then reached on an error by
third baseman Kory Wayment. Steve Shirley then grounded one to third, and
Wayment after making an error he made a nice play to end the
inning.
Nobuaki Yoshida started for the Wizards and lasted into
the seventh. He gave up five hits but only one run.
The Cougars
actually scored first in this game. Francis Gomez lead off the game with his
first homer of the year. It went to right centerfield.
After
that the Cougars offense was basically shut down. They did get a man to third in
the third with two outs, but a fly out to left cancelled that
threat.
Fort Wayne scored their first two runs in the fourth
with one out. Steve Baker singled to left. Doc Brooks then doubled off the wall
to center to score Baker to tie the game. Luis Cruz then singled to left to
score Brooks to take the lead.
In the fifth inning the Wizards
scored three more runs. Brian Burgamy singled to right to lead things off.
L.J.Biernbaum tripled to center to score Burgamy. Paul McAnult doubled to right
to score Biernbaum. Steve Shirley grounded out to first to get McAnulty to
third. Steve Baker grounded to third for the second out. On the play McAnulty
scored.
Marcus McBeth started things off with a single to center
in the fifht. Nick Rogers then lined into a doubled play. He lined one to center
and McBeth was doubled up at first. Gomez then singled to left. He stole second,
the catcher threw the ball into center and Gomez went to third. Wayment struck
out to end the threat.
The Cougars did have to get out of two
more jams in the late innings. In the sixth Cruz lead off with a double to
right. Andres Pagan struck out for the first out. Eddie Serrano then grounded
out to second, on the play Cruz made it to third. Brian Burgamy walked. The
Cougars then took Dickinson out of the game. Edwardo Sierra then came in.
L.J.Biernbaum then walked to load the bases with two outs. McAnulty then
grounded out to second to end the inning.
Fort Wayne wasnt done
threatening to score. With one out in the bottom of the eighth. Serrano singled
to center. Burgamy flied out to center for the second out. Biernbaum then
singled to left to get Burgamy to second. McAnulty then struck out to end the
game.
With one out in the ninth, Kirk Nordness walked. John
McCurdy then singled to right. Both runners would move up a base on a wild
pitch. Marcus McBeth singled to right to score both Nordness and
McCurdy.
