Round 3, Game 3
Both starting pitchers had career days on the mound, as there were 26 strikeouts between them and four runs. Dallas Braden had 15 and Jordan Tata had 11. In the game there were 30 strikeouts between the two teams.
The Cougars offense just didnt do much today hitting wise. Both teams would end up with five hits, the diffrence in the game was the Cougars four errors and plate umpire Bob Davidson's strike zone.
In the first inning Brian Ingram led off the game with a double to center. Luke Appert poped up to center. Vasili Spanos beat a throw from second on a grounder. Runners at first and third with one out. Dan Putnam struck out, which lead to Cougar manager Dave Joppie barking at Davidson. Rich Robnett would pop to center to end the inning.
Vince Blue would reach on a error by Appert. He would be balked to second on a throw to first. There wasnt any balk, Davidson's just in the way. Joppie came out at expolded again and was tossed. Juan Francia struck out. Danilo Sanchez would then ground out to short. Kelly Hunt struck out.
The 30 strike outs were incredible but you have to relize that Davidson strike zone was huge.
The bottom of the second would ultimately decide the game as the Caps scored two unearned runs. Kody Kirland led off with a single to left. Garth McKinney and Andrew Graham both struck out. Jason Knoedler would reach on an Eddie Kim bobble. Eric Rodland then singled to right to score Kirland. Wayment would overrun the ball then throw it away to allow Knoedler to score. Blue struck out to end the inning.
Between the third and the sixth there would be 14 strike outs combined. In the sixth the Caps added another run. With one out, Sanchez hit a ground rule double to center. Kelly Hunt then doubled to left to score Sanchez.
The Cougars would score a run in the game. In the seventh with one out, David Harriman was hit by a pitch. David Castillo and Kory Wayment both walked to load the bases. Ingram hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Harriman. Appert poped out to short to end the inning.
