Cedar Rapids Kernels left hander Joe Torres is making it look easey this season.
Torres pitched six scoreless innings Sunday as the Kernels blanked the Clinton Lumberkings 9-0, before 801 fans in a Midwest League game at Alliant Energy Field.
Torres (2-0) has not allowed a run in 11 innings this year. He allowed two hits, struck out seven and walked on Sunday.
Relievers Adam Thomas and Steve Andrade retired nine straight batters as the Kernels' pitching staff combined for it's fourth shutout in 10 games.
Cedar Rapids centerfielder Ransel Melgarejo went 4 for 4 with three RBI and scored twice. Catcher Jeff Mathis was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI. Shortstop Tommy Murphy also drove in two runs.
