Voice Of A Season Ticket Holder-Kane County Cougars
by David Malamut
How does it always end up a close game going into the late innings. Just like yesterday the Cougars had chances to tie and win the game this time in two innings and they could only come up with one of the needed two runs to do it. In the ninth inning with the score tied at seven, they had the bases loaded again. Luis Perez was hit by a pitch to lead things off, it looked like it might've hit his funny bone. Brian Ingram then bunted one just right of the pitcher, the first baseman got the ball and was going to shovel it over to the pitcher covering the bag, but he droped it, with all hand being safe. Luke Appert was intentionally walked to load the bases with nobody out. David Castillo struck out. Then came a replay of yesterdays game, Eddie Kim came on with the bases loaded and one out. This time with the drawn in infield he hit one to short. The shortstop threw home and got Perez at the plate for the second out. Brian Snyder would strike out to end the inning.
The inning the killed the Cougars was the tenth, that is when nobody could find the plateand the Cougars gave away the victory with the walks. Sam Taylor walked to lead things off. Scott Whitrock tried to bunt him over but would strike out trying to do so. Josh Johnson then singled to left. The Cougars then brought in Adiel Sanchez to replace Manny Rodriguez. Brock Peterson flew to right while pitch hitting for Ryan Spataro. Sanchez then threw the next four pitches wide to walk Denard Span, which loaded the bases. Alex Garcia then hit a grounder up the middle, second baseman Luke Appert did a nice job to keep it in the infield. On the play Taylor would score to break the tie. Matt Moses then took the next four pitches for balls for the walk, on the walk Johnson would score to put the Swing up by two.
In the bottom of the tenth the Cougars would get one of those runs back, but unfortunatly only one. Dustin Majewskireached on an error by left fielder Spataro. Kory Wayment then singled to right. Danny Gibbons would reach on a fielder's choice, with Wayment being out at second, and Majewski scoring on the play. Luis Perez was called out on strikes for the second out. Ingram then reached on a fielder's choice, with Gibbons being out at second to end the game.
The Cougars would take advantage of early walks to get ahead in the game. In the first inning with two outs, Castillo walked, Kim singled to left. Both runners would move up on a wild pitch. Brian Snyder then walked to load the bases. A wild pitch would bring home Castillo. Majewski walked to reload the bases. Wayment would strike out to end the inning. More fun for the COugars in the second inning thanks to walks. Gibbons and Perez would both walk. Followed by Ingram walking to load the bases. Appert lined out to left for the first out. Castillo was hit on the left shoulder to bring home Gibbons. The Swing the brought in another pitcher, Kevin Culppers. He would get a double play to end the inning.
With one out in the third, Denard Span singled to center. Alex Garcia then lined to left. Matt Moses singled to right to put runners on first and second with two outs. Dusty Goman hit a homer over the scoreboard in left centerfield. to put the Swing up by a run.
The Cougars would have a loud answer for them in the fourth with five runs of their own. With two outs, Castillo started the rally with a single to center. Kim singled to right. Snyder tripled to right to score both Castillo and Kim. Majewski would double to left to score Snyder. Wayment hit a home onto the deck in left field to cap off the inning.
The Swing scored single runs in the fifth and the sixth to pull within two runs. In the fifth, with one out Moses singled to right. Goman doubled to the left field corner. A sacrifice fly by Ben Pattee would score Moses. In the sixth Whitrock reached on a bunt single back to the mound. Johnson flied out to center. Spataro would reach on an error by shortstop Wayment, the ball went under his glove. Ont he error Whitrock would score.
The bleeding wouldn't stop there, in the seventh the Swing tied things up with two runs. With one out Moses doubled to right. After Goman flew out to cetner, Ben Pattee then took a pitch that hit the scoreboard in left cetnerfield for a two run bomb.
The Cougars had a chance in the bottom of the eighth to win the game. With one out, Snyder singled to right and went to second on a wild pitch. Majewski was intentionally walked. Wayment would strike out for the second out. Gobbons flew out to center to end the threat.
