Ransel Melgarejo led off with a double to the right center field corner. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a looping single to right by Jeff Mathis with one out. The Kernels loaded the bases with two outs, but Tommy Murphy was called out on strikes to end the inning.

Ryan Nevins reached on a tough error on the second baseman. Melgarejo walked with one out. Dallas McPherson singled to center, loading the bases. Mathis lined a two run single to left, scoring Nevins and Melgarejo, making it 3-0. McPherson and Mathis took 3rd and 2nd respectively, on the throw to the plate. Casey Kotchman was intentionally walked, loading the bases. The Chiefs changed pitched, with Ben Julianel replacing Mike Wodnicki. Greg Porter greeted Julianel with a two run single to right, scoring McPherson and Mathis, making it 5-0. Mike Napoli hit into a fielder's choice, scoring McPHerson and making it 6-0. Porter was safe at second on an error. Tommy Murphy hit into a fielder's choice, putting runners at 1st and 3rd with two outs. Porter and Murphy scored on a wind blown double to center by Nevins, making it 8-0.
