Peoria scored a run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the visiting Michigan Battle Cats 8-7 THursday night in a battle of the Midwest League's two first place teams.
The Cats scored four runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game, but it was Peoria's Gabe Johnson with a two out single that drove in Tim Lemon with the game winning run.
In the Cat ninth, a Joe Lydic double was followed by a Mark Obradovich walk. Both scored on a one out triple by Fehlandt Lentini to pull the Cats within 7-5. Brooks Conrad ripped a triple and Todd Shelf hit a sacrifice fly to tie it.
Conrad and Lydic each had two hits, two runs and an RBI on the night. Leadoff man Mike Rodriguez also had two hits.
Peoria right hander Joel Barreto was the winner despite that shaky ninth. barreto was named the Midwest League's Rolaids Relief man award winner for April with 10 saves.
